  • Custom2 At Miami, Schembechler earned two letters in football as an offensive tackle and two in baseball as a pitcher. He returned as head coach in 1963, leading Miami to co-championships in the Mid-American Conference in 1965 and 1966, and was named Coach of the Year in 1965. In 1969, he became head coach at the University of Michigan, where he spent 21 seasons, won or shared 13 Big Ten titles, appeared in 17 postseason bowl games, and was named National Coach of the Year by both the American Football Coaches Association and the Football Writers Association.
