Mel Knowlton

  • Custom2 Knowlton played baseball and basketball at Miami, earning varsity letters in each sport for three seasons and being named All-Buckeye Conference in both. After graduation, he coached under Paul Brown in Massillon before leading Alliance High School’s football program from 1946 to 1969. Over 24 seasons, he was named Ohio Coach of the Year in 1954 and won the state championship in 1958. He served as president of the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association and was inducted into that group's Hall of Fame in 1972.
