Walter Alston

  • Custom2 The dean of professional baseball managers, “Smokey” Alston, coached the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers for 15 seasons. A multi-sport athlete at Miami, he quickly proved himself by guiding the Dodgers to a National League pennant and their first World Series championship in 1955. He went on to win five more pennants — in 1956, 1959, 1963, 1965, and 1966. He added three World Series titles in 1959, 1963, and 1965.
