TOLEDO, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (11-12, 5-6 MAC) dropped a four-set match (23-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-25) at Toledo (17-6, 8-3 MAC) on Saturday at Savage Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Rockets came out strong in the opening set, taking an early 8-2 advantage. Trailing 12-5, a Molly Creech service ace and an Anna McClure kill helped get the RedHawk offense going, eventually coming within three at 13-10. Gentry Warrick and Creech each put down a kill to stay within striking distance at 16-13. Numerous errors from the Rockets and Creech's second service ace of the set kept things close at 20-18. Despite the strong push, Toledo secured the first set 25-23.
- Toledo started the second set ahead 4-1, but the RedHawks responded with a 4-0 run, led by two Chelsea Williams kills and a solo block, to take their first lead. Miami moved to an 11-7 advantage after a Creech kill and two Rocket errors, forcing a Toledo timeout. Miami maintained the lead at 16-11, but Toledo tied it at 17. Three late Creech kills and two Rocket errors secured Miami a 25-20 win.
- A block and a Williams kill put Miami ahead 2-0 in the third set. Creech's kills helped maintain a 9-8 lead until Toledo responded with five straight points to take control at 13-9. Down 21-13, Miami looked to close the gap. However, the RedHawks fell 25-17 in the third set.
- Toledo jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Williams and Warrick answered with kills to tie it, and Miami stayed within one at 11-10 after a burst of kills. Two Williams kills and a service ace kept Miami close at 14-13. Midway through, Toledo shifted momentum and took the set 25-15.
NOTES:
- Williams led all players with 15 kills.
- Creech led the RedHawks with 14 digs and two service aces.
- Warrick recorded the most blocks (seven) for the Red and White.
