SCOUTING REPORT: A Ray Guy Award candidate in 2008 .... sat out spring drills with a leg injury ... should again be among the nation[apos]s most proficient punters ... the former walk-on aims for his fourth letter at Miami ... if he improves his skills as a directional punter, he could be headed toward a career in pro football.
2007: Miami[apos]s Special Teams MVP ... finished the year with a 45.0 punting average, sixth-best in the nation, just 1.8 yards per kick behind the nation[apos]s leader, Kevin Huber of Cincinnati ... his average matched Gary Layton[apos]s school record, set in 1994 ... career-wise, his 41.98 average tops Miami[apos]s list, just ahead of Layton (1991-94) ... 24 of Richardson[apos]s 68 punts traveled 50 yards or more, including boomers of 64 and 62 yards ... 17 of Richardson[apos]s punts landed inside the 20 ... 10 were touchbacks and eight were fair catches.
2006: Averaged 41.1 yards on 58 attempts ... launched a career-best 69-yard punt vs. Northwestern and had a 65-yarder vs. Bowling Green.
2005: Made collegiate debut, totaling 46 punts and averaging 38.4 yards per kick ... only 11 of his punts were returnable.
2004: Redshirted as a walk-on.
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner as a punter, safety and linebacker for neighboring Talawanda High School in Oxford, earning all-conference honors as a senior linebacker ... coached by Jim Vanatsky.
PERSONAL: Son of Larry and Mary Richardson ... Jake is the oldest of nine children ... majoring in environmental science.
