HOW IT HAPPENED
- 2:02 1st (Miami 1-0) | Helgeson put Miami on top just over two minutes into the game. Helgeson used a 360-degree spin move and then eventually broke free from a tie-up near the boards to snatch the puck, skate in and score past ASU's Connor Hasley. Ethan Hay and Michael Quinn provided the assists, sending the puck in deep for Helgeson to win.
 - 10:50 1st (Arizona State 1-1) Arizona State equalized near the midway point of the first period, as Cruz Lucius finished off a series of passes from Johnny Waldron and Sean McGurn around the Miami net.
 - 9:19 2nd (Arizona State 2-1) The visitors took the lead in the middle stanza, as Kyle Smolen rebounded his own blocked shot and worked the puck to Waldron. Waldron's backdoor pass connected with Ben Kevan for the go-ahead goal.
 - 11:25 2nd (Miami 2-2) | Two minutes later, Miami re-tied the score. Kocha Delic stickhandled into the zone and worked a pass to David Deputy. Deputy found Helgeson on the far side of the net for a one-timer to make it 2-2.
 - 14:57 2nd (Miami 3-2) | The RedHawks found the back of the net again with their first shorthanded goal of the season. Hay stole the puck in his own zone and started an odd-man rush the other way. Justin Stupka then dropped the puck back for Hay, who fired a rocket past Hasley.
 - 15:47 2nd (Miami 4-2) | Miami continued its flurry with another goal 51 seconds later, as Smith's shot somehow bounced behind Hasley and in after Doug Grimes and Casper Nassen had worked the puck around the end boards.
 - 18:48 3rd (Miami 5-2) | The RedHawks put the contest out of reach with a late empty-net goal, as Blake Mesenburg threaded a pass behind him through his own legs from along the boards for Smith to send down the ice and seal the game.
