Miami's women's 4x400 team sets yet another school mark.
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Wrapping up the weekend of competition at the 125th Penn Relays, it was again the Miami 4x400 team that paced the RedHawk track and field squad with another school record on Saturday. In addition, several 'Hawks ran in a full day of events at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic.
PENN RELAYS
The Miami women's 4x400 relay team ran a 3:38.83 in Thursday's preliminaries to set a school record for the second time this year; however the mark would only stand for two days as the 4x4 team returned to the track Saturday and set a new school mark. Putting up a time of 3:38.29, led by Olivia Bechtel's 52.12 split, the quartet of Bechtel, Emily Hooker, Sarah Bruns, and Kalliopi Kountouri took fifth place in the championship section of the event.
A men's relay team added another strong mark Saturday at Franklin Field, as the team of Anthony Camerieri, Mitchell Towne, Sean Torpy, and Christopher Torpy ran a 16:50.28 to finish seventh.
With those two performances, all four of Miami's relay teams that made the trip to Philadelphia came away from the weekend with top-ten finishes.
JESSE OWENS CLASSIC
Meanwhile in Columbus at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic, it was another relay team that put on a big performance to lead the way for the RedHawks. In the men's 4x400, Ivan Dye, Jake Matthews, Luke Finnegan, and Jake Owens recorded a mark of 3:15.90 to win the event.
Elsewhere, Jeremiah Hunter had a big day for Miami with two top-four finishes. He set a personal record in the 100m dash with a 10.38 run, taking fourth in the event. Over in the 200m, Hunter ran a 21.29 for third place.
On the women's side, Claire Linn was one of the day's highlights with a personal-best 10:50.75 run in the steeplechase. This garnered her a fourth-place finish in the event. Also in the steeplechase, Katie Vitou set a PR with a 10:58.94 and also finished in the top ten. The 400m hurdles was also a successful event for the RedHawks, with Mallory Harr and Gabby Maslowski each taking top-ten finishes while Sonia Slusarczyk added a PR.
Over in the field, Hannah Falcione continued her strong performance in the triple jump as she jumped a personal best 12.36m to take third in the event. In the high jump, Elise Walker and Molly Balcer both cleared 1.60m to finish in the top ten. For the men's field athletes, Travis Moore and Ryan Smith both finished in the top ten of the shot put.
Results for both meets can be found above.
After back-to-back split squad weekends, the RedHawks will regroup and head to Indiana's Billy Hayes Invitational next weekend.
