Torpy brothers, Bechtel turn in Miami's top performances
LEXINGTON, Ky. - After a full day of events, the Miami University track and field team completed its first full-squad meet Saturday at the University of Kentucky's Jim Green Invitational.
While the RedHawk women had gotten a quick warmup meet under their belts at Bowling Green in December, this weekend served as the first indoor track and field meet of the season for the Miami men. The 'Hawks were part of a 20-team field that included several power-conference schools and some familiar Mid-American Conference foes as well.
For the women, the strongest performance of the day came from junior Olivia Bechtel in the 400m. The Bay Village, Ohio native ran a 55:53 to take fifth in the 56-runner field. Junior Carly Davis also turned in a great showing on the track, taking ninth in the 3000m. Maegan Murphy and Katherine Vitou weren't far behind in the same event, taking 17th and 21st respectively. Junior Claire Linn also turned in a good run in the one mile, finishing 14th with a 5:06.30.
In field events, junior Hannah Falcione took tenth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.26m, while sophomore Mikaylah Woods finished 13th in the long jump with a 5.37m best.
All-MAC Cross Country First-Teamers Christopher Torpy and Sean Torpy carried over their string of great performances from the course to the track, as the brothers both turned in great runs in the 800m. Sean placed second overall with a 1:49.65 while Chris followed closely behind with a sixth-place, 1:51.49 run. Fellow distance runner Bradley Davis also looked sharp, finishing ninth in the 3000m. Two more top-ten finishes came from senior Aaron Muresan and junior Jeremiah Hunter, who advanced to the final heat of the 60m hurdles and 60m dash respectively.
In the only field event on the men's side, Kenny Glenn grabbed a solid 11th place in the long jump with a distance of 6.93m.
Full results from each event can be found at the link above.
The RedHawks will continue their indoor season the next two weekends at Indiana University, with the Gladstein Invitational from Jan. 18-19 and the IU Relays from Jan. 25-26.
