Miami have an off week before returning for Pre-Nationals.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Miami University cross country team competed in Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational Friday.
Several RedHawks had big days, with over a dozen athletes recording personal records, including eight Miami women.
"This was the end of two of the hardest weeks of training we will have all season, and somehow we still came out and grabbed so many PR's" director of track & field/cross country Tom Chorny said regarding the team's performance.
"Ultimately, our focus is still on the conference championships and our top nine is starting to take shape and is looking very strong."
Senior Alesha Vovk lead the way in the women's Blue Division race for the RedHawks, as she recorded a personal best 17:22.5 time. Junior Meagan Murphy and freshman McKenna Fry followed with PR's of their own.
Juniors David Coffey and Christopher Torpy combined to lead the 'Hawks in the Blue Division men's race; the two crossed the line just 0.1 seconds apart. Torpy, the reigning Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week grabbed a personal record with his 25:45.4 mark.
Several Miami runners also competed in the Open Division of the meet. Sophomore Emma Bryant and junior Claire Linn impressed on the women's side, as both took top ten finishes and recorded personal best times. Freshman Anthony Camerieri was Miami's highest finisher in the men's Open Division with his own PR.
