Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks (9-12-3, 4-8-2-0 NCHC) closed out the month with a trip to Colorado College. Despite multi-point nights from Kiefer Sherwood, Grant Hutton and Alec Mahalak, the RedHawks dropped game one by a 6-3 count as a 5-1 deficit proved too much to overcome in the third (Recap). Saturday night saw Miami storm back from an early 2-0 hole to grab a 4-2 lead in the second period, but Colorado College ended up rallying to force a 4-4 tie and took a second NCHC point by prevailing in the 3-on-3 overtime (Recap). This Week: Miami returns home for a weekend series against Western Michigan. Puck drop for Friday night's opener is at 7:35 p.m. Saturday's contest (7:05 p.m. start) will be telecast on Fox College Sports.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (11-10 overall, 4-4 MAC) split its two games this past week. jumped out to an early lead and used a consistent offensive attack and a strong defense to earn a 70-61 victory at Central Michigan on Tuesday. (Recap) Miami couldn't quite figure out Eastern Michigan's zone defense as it fell to the Eagles Saturday at Millett Hall by a score of 58-48 on Saturday (Recap) This Week: On Tuesday the RedHawks remain at home as they welcome Akron to Millett Hall for a 7 p.m. tip. Miami then hits the road Saturday as it travels to Northern Illinois. Game time is 4:30 p.m. (EST). Both games will air live on ESPN3.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (12-8, 4-5 MAC) were victorious in a pair of decisions last week, first at Eastern Michigan on Wednesday. Miami got a 33-point performance from Lauren Dickerson as well as 19 points from Kendall McCoy en route to a 73-69 road victory (Recap). The Red & White got another solid performance out of the duo Saturday in a 64-55 win over rival Ohio. Dickerson went for 27 points while McCoy notched her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds (Recap). This Week: Miami is on the road for a pair of games this week. The `Hawks kick off the slate with a 6 p.m. tip at Northern Illinois on Wednesday before heading to Bowling Green for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday. Both games will air live on ESPN3 and can be heard on the Miami IMG Sports Network with a subscription.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: Both the senior and collegiate programs were in action over the weekend as nationals draws closer. The collegiate RedHawks finished runner-up at the Midwestern Sectional Championships with the senior team opening up the Leon Lurje Trophy in Sweden with a third-place short program (Recap). The senior team finished up the weekend by claiming a bronze medal at the Leon Lurje Trophy, notching a score of 156.84 (Recap). This Week: Both teams perform during the first intermission at Miami's hockey games against Western Michigan.
Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The men and women fell in a conference meet against Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The women were strong in the fly with Kayleigh Cannon winning the 200 (2:03.95) and Peyton Mosbaugh winning the 100 (55.97). Pei Lin once again swept the diving competition, recording 303.15 points in the 1 mtr and 366.75 in the 3 mtr. Miami took the top two finishes in the 200 free and the 200 IM. In the 200 free, Ella Moynihan finished first (1:51.19) with Molly Zilch coming in second (1:52.45). In the 200 IM, Holly Schuster recorded the win (2:06.91) and Hannah Fuchs finished second (2:06.91). The men were strong in distance free with Austin Theobald winning the 1000 free (9:34.11) and Gordon Wheeler winning the 500 free (4:39.71). Iago Moussalem, Nicholas Ward, Diego GonzÃÆ'Æ'¡lez Valentim and Chase Bettner finished first in the 400 free relay (3:04.38).
Harrison Moncino had his best showing of the year, recording his season-high 330.37 points in the 3 mtr and 320.70 in the 1 mtr. Moncino's 1 mtr score is the highest for the men this season (Recap). This Week: The Red and White host Xavier on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the senior meet.
Tennis
Last Week:Miami opened the spring season with a 2-1 record, defeating Wright State (Recap) and Dayton (Recap), but falling to Kentucky (Recap). This Week: Miami returns to action with a dual meet at Cincinnati on Friday (Feb. 2) and a home contest against Xavier on Sunday (Feb. 4).
