OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team couldn't quite figure out Eastern Michigan's zone defense as it fell to the Eagles Saturday at Millett Hall by a score of 58-48. Miami drops to 11-10 overall (4-4 in the Mid-American Conference), while EMU improves to 12-9 (3-5 in the MAC).
Offensively, the RedHawks were led by freshman Dalonte Brown, who matched a career high with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Fellow freshman Nike Sibande, coming off a 22-point game in the win at Central Michigan Tuesday, contributed 10 points while Jalen Adaway scored seven and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Junior point guard Darrian Ringo dished out six assists while collecting five steals.

Brown got things rolling for the RedHawks, burying his first four shots to score Miami's first nine points. Despite Brown's hot start, the Eagles would still claim an early advantage at the first media timeout, 12-9, behind James Thompson's eight early points. Miami would respond out of the timeout with a nice feed from Ringo to Adaway and another jumper from Brown to reclaim the lead.

Back-to-back triples by Adaway and Isaiah Coleman-Lands continued the hot shooting, helping the `Hawks to a 10-of-14 start from the field. However, the visitors would keep pace and the RedHawks found themselves leading just 24-22 with 6:33 left in the opening half. Another layup from Thompson on the next possession would then deadlock the game at 24, as the RedHawks began to hit a stretch of cold shooting.

Eastern Michigan would go ahead with 4:16 remaining, with Miami finding itself unable to hit from the field. The `Hawks finally broke through with a pull-up three pointer from Ringo with just three seconds left in the half, giving the RedHawks a 30-29 advantage at the break.

Brown led all scorers with 14 first-half points, and Adaway added seven points and seven rebounds in the opening frame. Miami cooled considerably from its early shooting performance, finishing the half with a field goal percentage of 36.7. The RedHawks outrebounded EMU, 23-11.
The teams would trade misses out of the locker room until Sibande hit a pair of free throws with 17:24 left on the clock to make the score 32-29 Miami. The Eagles responded with an alley-oop dunk that kicked off a 13-0 run, leading to a 42-32 advantage. The RedHawks would end the drought on a Coleman-Lands trey with 12:02 left to play.

Logan McLane would find his first basket of the game with 9:50 remaining, and Sibande followed up with a three-pointer to narrow the deficit to 45-40. Brown then brought the Millett Hall crowd to its feet, burying an off-the-dribble three to capitalize the 8-0 run and trim the Eagle lead to two. Eastern Michigan would keep Miami at bay over the next few minutes, making the score 48-43 with only five minutes to play.

A lob from Ringo to Sibande for a highlight dunk again electrified the crowd, but an Eastern Michigan layup at the other end would keep the Miami deficit at five. With 1:39 left to play, Sibande would score on a baseline drive, but an Eagle three kept Eastern Michigan ahead, 53-47, with 1:06 left. The RedHawks came up empty on their next possession, and the Eagles would eventually seal the 58-48 victory.
Miami finished the game shooting 30.4 percent from the field, compared to Eastern Michigan's 49 percent. The Eagles were led by 15 points from Paul Jackson and a double-double from Thompson.
The RedHawks are back in action Tuesday when they welcome Akron to Millett Hall. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off and will air live on ESPN3.
