LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Miami University women's tennis team got its dual season underway Wednesday when the RedHawks took on the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington. Kentucky, currently ranked 21 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, took the match 7-0. The 'Hawks drop to 0-1 on the young season, while Kentucky is 1-0.

After going 8-2 in doubles matches at the Florida Atlantic Invite the previous weekend, Miami's doubles pairings couldn't replicate the same success against Kentucky. The Wildcats were able to take the first two matches and clinch the extra point before singles.

Just as with doubles, Kentucky was able to quickly jump out ahead in singles. Freshman Milana Lysova, at first singles, fell to UK's Justina Mikulskyte in two sets while Anastasiia Vasiukhina, playing at third position, was clipped by the Wildcats' Mami Adachi. With the match score now 3-0, Kentucky needed only one more victory to clinch the win, which they got soon after when Nelli Ponomareva dropped her match to Emily Fanning on the second court.

Priyana Kalita fell on court four, while Lena Babunski was defeated by Kentucky's Diana Tkachenko at the fifth position. On the six court, junior Emily Struble took her first set, but was narrowly clipped in a third-set tiebreak.

The Red and White will look to bounce back Friday, when they make the short trip to Dayton for a 7 p.m. meeting with Wright State. Miami will host its first home match of the season Sunday, when the 'Hawks take on Dayton at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
