RedHawks Clean Up on Day Two of Ball State Challenge

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Miami track and field team closed out its fourth meet of the season at the Ball State Challenge on Saturday with strong performances across the board.
Action kicked off with the men's discus, where Zubin Coleman took second with a heave of 158-4. Fellow RedHawk Andrew Vollet took fifth with a mark of 150-5. In the women's competition, Danielle Collier threw 120-11 for eighth.
In men's pole vault, Jake Hensh and Matt Owens both cleared 15 feet to finish first and second, with Owens winning on attempts. In the women's vault, Hope Turner took second clearing 11-11.25. Emily Fletchall finished fourth on a mark of 11-5.25.
Kenny Glenn picked up his first win of the season on a mark of 24-1 in the long jump while Grant Cole cleared 20-11.75 for fifth. Caitlyn Redmon leaped 18-2.5 for fourth on the women's side. Glenn's mark pushes him to fifth in the Mid-American Confernce Standings and gives him an automatic qualification for the championships in May.
In the high jump, Jess Baker finished third on attempts clearing 5-7.25, Molly Balcer was fifth clearing 5-5.25. Peter Stefanski finished fourth on attempts after he cleared 6-10.75. Fellow RedHawk Brock Downey was fifth after he cleared 6-6.75. Stefanski's mark pushes him to third in the conference rankings.
Maria Scavuzzo brought home the win in the women's 5000m, clocking in at 17:36.31. Sarah Starrett was second in 18:20.29 while Jackie Mullins finished in 18:43.42 for fourth and Tayor Wood was 12th in 19:25.21. In the men's 5000m, Patrick Santino finished seventh with a time 15:47.73.
In the men's 4x100m, the Miami squad took the win in 41.66.
In the shot put ring, the `Hawks took three of the top-five spots with Arionna Darling picking up the win with a mark of 51-9. Ashley Frahm and Katie Walter marked 46-2.5 and 45-8.5 for fourth and fifth, respectively. For the men, Andrew Vollet took second 54-10.25 for second. Darling's mark pushes her lead in the conferece standings to 8.25 inches. Vollet moves to 6th on the conference list with his mark.
Jake Brumfield picked up the win for the `Hawks in the 1500m, posting a time of 3:55.47. The trio of Kane Dixon (3:59.85), Ben Metzger (4:00.53) and Ryan Pitner (4:02.45) finished fourth, fifth and sixth. Jordan Knapp was 11th in 4:08.98. Alesha Vovk was second in the women's 1500m in 4:33.40. Alexis Szivan was right behind her in third clocking in at 4:36.19 while Taylor Broerman (4:49.03; 11th), McKenna Kiple (4:50.85; 16th) and Lauren Hoover (5:14.84; 27th) rounded out the Miami squad.
In the 400m hurdles, the Red and White's Vinnie Minosky brought home the win in 53.26. Kathie Wollney and Morgan Rice took first and second in the 400m hurdles clocking in at 59.97 and 1:01.66, respectively. Alexus Jimson-Miller posted a 13.67 for second in the 100m hurdles. Caitlyn Redmon took fourth clocking in at and 14.52. Jimson-Miller was also eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.91. Jimson-Miller's performance moves her back to the top of the confernce standings in the 100m hurdles.
The `Hawks went 1-2 in the men's 400m with Jake Owens setting the pace in 48-39 and Adam Bodrick clocked in at 48.76. Kalliopi Kountouri picked up her first collegiate win in the women's 400m clocking in at 56.27. Owens and Bodrick were second and third in the 200m, with Owens clocking in at 21.59 and Bodrick crossing the line in 21.76. Owens' time at 200m gives him the fourth fastest time in the MAC this season and his 400m performance ranks sixth. Kountouri's tim earns her fourth on the conference 400m list.
Kenny Glenn picked up his second win of the day in the 100m, clocking in at 10.78. Matt Owens was fourth in 11 seconds even and Briah Owens took seventh in the women's 100m in 12.30.
Miami took four of the top five in the men's 800m with Andrew Dusing clocking in at 1:50.94 for the win. Stephen Biebelhausen was second in 1:54.21 while Max Lewis (1:55.52) and Johnathan Fee (1:55:55) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Dusing's time gives him the third fastest time in the MAC and punches his second championship ticket. In the women's race Megan Beaver finished fourth in 2:11.91 to lead the RedHawks. Taylor Broerman (2:21.77;10th) and McKenna Kiple (2:24.78; 14th) rounded out the Miami contingent. Beaver's time pushes her to fourth in the conference standings and gives her an automatic bid to the MAC Championships.
The men's 3000m steeplechase saw Zack McBride lead the `Hawks to a sweep of the top-four spots, winning in 9:19.28. Jordan Rice was second in 9:31.01, Cody Riesterer took third in 9:38.13 and Matt Bromley was fourth in 9:41.29 while Zac Thompson finished eighth in 9:59.70. For the women, the trio of Maria Weisgerber (11:46.77), Haley Sandvik (11:47.81) and Kirsten Petrosky (11:56.25) finished 3-4-5. McBride's performance gives him the second fastest steeplechase time in the MAC.
To close competition in the 4x400m, the Miami men finished third in 3:24.91.
The Red and White will split the squad next weekend and send a group to the Virginia Challenge, a group to the Stanford Twilight and a third group to the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State.
