Baseball
Last Week: The RedHawks started last week by traveling to Northern Kentucky, where a late Norse scoring surge pushed them past MU, 5-1. (Recap) Inclement weather forced some schedule changes on the weekend, but Miami and Bowling Green were able to get the series opener completed on Saturday. The contest was all Miami as they cruised to a 5-1 victory behind a solid start from pitcher Gus Graham, who went 6.2 innings, allowing zero runs and just four hits. (Recap) On Sunday, the two teams played a doubleheader. In game one, the Red & White jumped out to an early 6-0 before holding off a late charge by the Falcons, winning 7-5. Game two featured perhaps the most dramatic game of the season thus far. After the 'Hawks grabbed an early 2-0 lead, BG quickly tied things up in the third inning. Both squads had their chances to seize the game but neither could score by the end of the ninth so the game went to extra innings. The Falcons took the lead on a single to left in the top of the 11th, but Miami kept fighting and knotted things back up on a single by Adam Yacek in the bottom half of the frame. After setting the Falcons down in order in the top of the 12th, Miami ended things in the home half of the inning on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Jake Romano. With the 4-3 extra-innings win, the RedHawks captured their first series sweep since May 15-17, 2014 at Ohio. (Doubleheader Recap) This week: Miami is set to host the Joe Nuxhall Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday. In game one on Tuesday, Cincinnati will take on Wright State at 3 p.m. The RedHawks will play in the nightcap against Xavier at 7 p.m. Wednesday matchups will be determined by Tuesday's outcomes. Regardless of the results, Miami will play the 7 p.m. game again on Wednesday.
Women's Tennis
Last Week: On Thursday, the sophomore pair of Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina was named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for the second-consecutive week. (Release) The RedHawks returned home from a six-week absence to begin a four-match home stand. On Friday, Miami used a doubles comeback and four-consecutive singles victories to defeat Buffalo, 5-2, in Hamilton, Ohio. (Recap) The pair of senior Ana Rajkovic and sophomore Hannah Shteyn overcame a 5-2 deficit to win the clinching doubles match. The RedHawks continued their winning ways with a 5-2 result over Akron on Sunday. (Recap) Following a doubles sweep, Miami took straight-sets victories in its first four singles matchups to clinch the win over the Zips. Sophomore Nelli Ponomareva currently holds a six-match winning streak in singles, while freshman Emily Struble extended her team-high record to 24-8. This Week: Miami concludes its home regular-season schedule with a pair of matches next weekend. The RedHawks take on Bowling Green on Friday, followed by a visit from Eastern Michigan on Sunday. Both matches will start at 1 p.m. at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts in Oxford. Sunday's match will be the final regular-season event at the facility, as well Senior Day for Ana Rajkovic.
Golf
Last Week: The Miami golf team earned its first team title of the season as it shared the honors with 33rd-ranked Purdue at the Hoosier Collegiate. Both teams finished the even--which was shortened to 36 holes due to weather--at two-over par. Sophomore Patrick Flavin earned his third individual trophy of the year, finishing at four-under par. (Saturday Recap) (Sunday Recap) This Week: The RedHawks return to action next weekend when they travel to West Lafayette, Indiana for the Boilermaker Invitational. Miami will play two rounds on Saturday and one final round of 18 holes on Sunday.
Softball
Last Week: Another good week for the RedHawks saw them go 2-1. Miami had an offensive explosion on Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep of Bowling Green. The RedHawk took a 7-3 victory in the opener. Miami then scored a season-high 17 runs in a 17-3 win in the nightcap. That game ended after five innings due to the run-rule. (Recap) A cold weekend and poor weather in Kalamazoo allowed only one of the three scheduled games to be played against Western Michigan. The Broncos took that game in a pitcher's duel, 3-1. (Recap) This Week: Miami hits the road to complete its series against Bowling Green with a single game on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. The RedHawks then host Kent State for a weekend series. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. They will then face off for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
