RedHawks Finish Ninth at World Championships

BUDAPEST--With an exuberant skate to its Latin-themed free skate program on Friday evening at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, the Miami University senior synchronized skating team completed the event with a total score of 175.00 to place ninth among the 26-team field that represented 21 different countries.
The RedHawks, one of two teams representing the United States at the event, had a clean skate on Saturday evening and posted a score of 115.48 for their free skate program with a program component score of 62.94 and a program element score of 52.54. The RedHawks had the eighth-best free skate score. On Friday, Miami notched a score of 59.52 for its short program to the song "Breath of Life."
Team Russia 1 won the event with a total score of 212.69, while Team Finland 2 followed in second place with a score of 206.95. Team USA 1, the Haydenettes, posted the best free skate score of the competition and jumped into third in the final standings with a total score of 206.95.
Team Finland 1 was fourth with a score of (206.65), followed by Team Canada 1 (201.07), Team Sweden 1 (197.58) and Team Canada 2 (196.06). Miami was edged out of eighth place by 1.20 points by Team Russia 2 (176.20). The RedHawks held a sizeable lead on 10th-place Team Sweden 2 (159.37), besting them by a 15.63 margin. Miami's season is concluded, but all three teams will perform in the annual Ice Show at the Goggin Ice Center, April 29-30.
