Track and Field Starts Competition at the Hilltopper Relays

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Miami University track and field team kicked off its third week of the 2016 outdoor campaign at the Hilltopper Relays.
The 3000m races were the only track event contested on the first day of competition. In the men's race, all three RedHawks took home top-10 finishes. For the second week in a row, Ryan Pitner set the pace for the Red and White, finishing sixth in 8:35.73. Ben Metzger was right on his heels, finishing seventh in 8:35.75. Matt Stewart rounded out the RedHawk squad taking ninth in 8:47.67. In the women's race, Taylor Broerman flew solo taking the 10:30.87 for eleventh.
Pitner's time cut 12 seconds off his team leading performance from last weekend Metzger took 15 seconds off his outdoor personal best.
In the men's pole vault Matt Owens took home the win, clearing 15-1. On the women's side, Hope Turner finished 13th clearing 11-8 for her best performance of the season.
Over in the throwing circle, Martha Szekely marked 176-9 in the women's hammer to finish fifth. Ashley Frahm marked 172-3 to finish ninth. Katie Walter marked 165-11 on her final attempt to finish 13th. In men's hammer, Zubin Coleman marked 152-2 to finish 13th on the day.
Action will resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT with the Discus, the first running event, the 4x100m will be at noon.
