RedHawks Roll on Day Two at Hilltopper Relays

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Miami University track and field program closed out its third weekend of competition at Western Kentucky's Hilltopper Relays Saturday.
Laura Bess ran away with the women's 1500m title, clocking in at 4:31:42 to best the second-place finisher by five seconds. Fellow RedHawk Taylor Broerman was 10th in a collegiate-best 4:47.13. Two RedHawks had top-10 finishes in the men's 1500m as Stephen Biebelhausen came in at 3:58.73 for fifth place and Jake Brumfield was seventh on an effort of 4:02.64. Bess' performance earned her an automatic bid to the Mid-American Conference Championships and ranks fifth in the MAC standings. Biebelhausen's time ranks eighth on the conference list.
Bess also set the pace in the 800m for Miami, taking second in 2:13.14. Alexis Szivan was fifth in 2:14.03. Lauren Hoover rounded out the Red and White effort in 2:21.62 for 21st. The men's 800m saw Kane Dixion and Jake Brumfield take ninth and 10th clocking in at 1:58.46 and 1:59.35. Biebelhausen was 15th in 2:00.49. With her time, Bess ranks sixth in the conference at 800m and Szivan takes ninth on the conference list.
In steeplechase action, Alesha Vovk won the woman's race in a meet-record 10:52.68. The men's race saw Jordan Rice clock in at 9:40.97 to finish third, giving him the second-fastest time in the conference this season. Vovk's time gives her an automatic qualification to the MAC Championships and sits third in the conference rankings and eighth in the Miami all-time top-10 list.
Jess Baker won the high jump for the Miami women as she cleared 5-7. In the men's competition, Peter Stefanski tied his season best clearing 6-8.75 for second on attempts.
The RedHawks took home second and third in the invitational section of the women's shot put with Arionna Darling marking 51-5 and Ashley Frahm throwing 48-8. Andrew Vollet threw in the men's contest, heaving a mark of 54-2.75 for seventh place. Vollet also finished fourth in the discus marking 143-07.
In javelin action, Danielle Collier heaved 135-11 to finish third and Tessa Brooks marked 114-11 for ninth.
Alexus Jimson-Miller was fourth in the 100m hurdles clocking in at 14.28. Caitlyn Redmon was 18th in 14.85. In the 400m hurdles, Vinnie Minosky was fourth for Miami in 53.17. For the women, the duo of Kathie Wollney (1:01.94) and Morgan Rice (1:02.97) finished third and fifth. Wollney's race lowers her MAC leading time by .14 seconds.
At 400m, Kalliopi Kountouri finished fourth in 56.61 for the women and Jake Owens ran a 49.33 to finish 11th overall for the men.
In 200m action, Briah Owens led the Red and White finishing in 25.55 for 11th. Jimson-Miller and Kountouri finished 16th and 19th with times of 25.82 and 25.93 respectively. For the men, Adam Bodrick finished 20th in 22.53.
Grant Cole marked 23-0.75 to finish third in the long jump. Kenny Glenn was fifth marking 22-05.75. Caitlyn Redmon marked 17-02.25 to finish 17th on the day. Cole's mark pushes him to seventh in the MAC standings.
In the 4x100m the Miami squad of Matt Owens, Grant Cole, Adam Bodrick and Kenny Glenn combined for a time of 42.17 for fifth overall. The Miami women finished seventh with Morgan Rice, Caitlyn Redmon, Briah Owens and Alexus Jimson-Miller teaming up to clock in at 48.64.
The final event of the meet was the 4x400m where the Miami women fielded the squad of Megan Beaver, Alexis Szivan, Lauren Hoover and Alesha Vovk who finished ninth with a time of 4:02.64.
The RedHawks will head to Muncie, Ind. next weekend for the Ball State Challenge.
