Huskies Get Past RedHawks in GLI Semifinal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– (RV/RV) Miami University dropped its first non-conference game of the season Sunday, falling in the Great Lakes Invitational semifinals to (RV/NA) Michigan Tech 5-2. Ryan Smith led the RedHawks (10-7-2, 2-6-2 NCHC) with two points, tallying a goal and an assist. Stiven Sardarian had three points (1-2-3) to pace the Huskies (11-6-2, 7-3-2 CCHA).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 9:47 1st (Miami 1-0) | Miami grabbed the lead near the midway point of the first period on a Michael Quinn goal. Vladislav Lukashevich stole the puck in the RedHawks' offensive zone and Smith eventually fed a pass from the corner to Quinn in the middle. Quinn quickly hammered home a shot to make it 1-0 in favor of the Red and White.
- 15:47 1st (Michigan Tech 1-1) | After a flurry of quick saves by Matteo Drobac, the Huskies finally broke through to tie the score on a deep shot from Joe Prouty. Sardarian was credited with an assist on the play.
- 2:05 2nd (Michigan Tech 2-1) | Michigan Tech went ahead early in the second period after Tom Leppa played a pass from behind Drobac's net that found Carson Birnie for the finish in front, making it 2-1.
- 5:22 2nd (Miami 2-2) | Miami answered back in a matter of minutes, as a perfectly-timed Bradley Walker pass from the blue line found Smith behind the MTU defense. Smith deposited a backhand shot past goaltender Owen Bartoszkiewicz to even the score. Ryder Thompson started the play with a pass ahead to Walker and also earned an assist.
- 9:47 2nd (Michigan Tech 3-2) | The Huskies re-took the lead just over four minutes later when Jack Anderson finished off a backdoor feed from Sardarian at the far goalpost. Reid Daavettila also picked up an assist for Michigan Tech.
- 17:49 3rd (Michigan Tech 4-2) | Michigan Tech added some insurance on an empty-net goal from Sardarian with 2:11 to play after a Max Koskipirtti assist.
- 18:15 3rd (Michigan Tech 5-2) | The Huskies closed the scoring with an additional empty-netter from Leppa 26 seconds later to push the margin to 5-2.
NOTES
- Drobac made 28 saves in net for the Red and White.
- Quinn's goal was the 25th point of his career.
- Lukashevich picked up his team-leading 13th assist of the season.
- Smith extended his point streak to three games and produced his third multi-point performance of the season.
- Walker collected his first career assist.
- Miami had been 8-0 in non-conference games; the RedHawks lost a non-conference matchup for the first time since Nov. 2, 2024.
