Miami Hockey Opens GLI vs. Michigan Tech Sunday
12/23/2025 2:25:00 PM | Hockey
Miami Hockey will take part in its second in-season tournament in as many months, traveling to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the Great Lakes Invitational. The RV/RV RedHawks come in at 10-6-2 (2-6-2 NCHC) after a pair of home ties vs. then-No. 19 Colorado College in mid-December. Miami will play RV/NA Michigan Tech (10-6-2, 7-3-2 CCHA) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Van Andel Arena; the Huskies are coming off a road sweep of the Ferris State Bulldogs. The RedHawks then face Ferris State (4-14-0, 3-9-0 CCHA) or the No. 3/3 Michigan State Spartans (12-4-0, 5-3-0 Big Ten) Monday, with the third-place game set for 3:30 p.m. and the championship game at 7 p.m.
The Great Lakes Invitational games will be broadcast on select Gray Media stations (a list of affiliates is available below) and will stream on either Midco Sports Plus 2 or Big Ten Plus depending on the matchup. A free stream of all GLI games will be available at UpperMichigansSource.com or on the WLUC TV6/FoxUP Roku app. Greg Waddell (play-by-play) and Drew Davis (analyst) will have audio coverage streaming on MiamiRedHawks.com for both Miami games.
Miami is 3-3 all-time against Michigan Tech, with all of those meetings coming between 1982 and 1984. Michigan State leads the all-time series against the Red and White 73-34-6 (last meeting: 2022). Miami is 51-46-19 against Ferris State, including a pair of home wins to open this season (6-4 and 3-1 scores in early October).
Matteo Giampa (9-10-19) leads the RedHawks in goals and points. Vladislav Lukashevich (2-10-12) tops the Red and White in assists. Miami's roster has produced 10 double-figure scorers by the season's halfway point. (Last year, only five RedHawks finished the 34-game slate with more than 10 points.) Matteo Drobac has played every minute in net and is 10-6-2 between the pipes (3.14 GAA, .898 save %).
Freshman forward Ethan Hay and head coach Anthony Noreen spoke with the media today to preview the upcoming tournament.
