ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks to get back on the winning track with a Thursday, Nov. 14 tilt versus Tiffin University. Opening tip is slated for 5 p.m.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter recorded 10 double-doubles last season as a true freshman with the RedHawks. In fact, her 222 rebounds was the most in a single-season by a freshman in program history. This season she is averaging a double-double in points (14.5) and rebounds (10.0). She also ranks eighth in the MAC in field goal percentage (64.3%).
ABOUT TIFFIN: Tiffin is 1-1 on the year with a 70-63 win over Illinois Springfield and an 84-71 loss to Purdue Northwest on Saturday. The Dragons feature four double-digit scorers, led by Megan Campbell, who averages 13.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
SERIES WITH TIFFIN: Miami is 5-0 all-time in the series versus Tiffin. All five contests have been at Millett Hall.
LAST MEETING WITH THE DRAGONS: Miami downed Tiffin 80-31 back on Dec. 31, 2022. Five different RedHawks scored in double figures, while the Miami defense held the Dragons to 14-of-42 shooting (33.3%). Miami also held a 39-22 rebounding advantage.
XAVIER RECAP: Miami erased a second quarter 20-point deficit, but fell 71-66 at Xavier on Sunday afternoon. Amber Tretter had 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Maya Chandler added 15 points and Tamar Singer chipped in with 12. Singer added five assists and was a perfect 4-of-4 from behind the arc.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION: Miami is averaging 70.5 points this season after averaging 53.9 points last year. Helping with the offensive improvement have been three point shooting, assists and rebounds. This season Miami is connecting on 9.5 three's per game (4.9 in 2023-24) and are outrebounding their opponents by 6.5 boards/game (-3.8 in 2023-24). Miami is also averaging 18.0 assists per game, compared to 11.6 last season.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Miami has started four players (two freshmen) that weren't even on campus a year ago in the first two games of the season. In fact, six different newcomers have scored this season and four of Miami's top five scorers are new in 2024-25.
MAGNIFICENT SEVEN: Coach Box added seven new faces to the 2024-25 season and their impact was felt immediately. Newcomers have scored 82 of 141 points (58.2%), 36 of 79 rebounds (45.6%) and 29 of 36 assists (80.6%).
TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER: Transfer Maya Chandler not only is she second on the team, averaging 10.5 points/game, she also leads the MAC in assist to turnover ratio (10/2). Chandler had six assists and no turnovers in the win over App State and added four assists and a pair of turnovers at Xavier.
HANGING AROUND: Senior Katey Richason, along with Clare Chambers, are the lone remaining players prior to Coach Box's arrival. Richason has made the most of the change in leadership. Last season the Zionsville, Ind. native recorded career-bests in points (8.7), rebounds (5.7) and free throws made (34).
REDHAWKS PICKED EIGHTH IN PRESEASON POLL: Miami was picked eighth in the preseason coaches poll. Ball State finished atop the preseason rankings with 120 points and were followed by Kent State (104), Buffalo (98), Bowling Green (96), Toledo (82), Northern Illinois (64), Ohio (64), Miami (44), Akron (43), Western Michigan (34), Eastern Michigan (23) and Central Michigan (20).
