OXFORD, Ohio— Miami University head women's basketball coach Glenn Box has announced the addition of two assistant coaches to his staff, Rebecca Harris and Simeon Spurling.
Rebecca Harris
Harris spent the past season as the Associate Head Coach at Laney College, helping the team to a 26-4 record, a conference championship and a trip to the Final Four. She focused on player development and game planning and worked directly with guards, including several that have recently committed to play at the next level (Long Beach State, Cal State Bakersfield, and UC Irvine).
"It's an honor to join Coach Box and his staff here at Miami University and I'm just so blessed and grateful to be able to work alongside him and some other great people," Harris said. "Ready to contribute to the success of the program and our athletes, both on and off the court! #RiseUpRedHawks"
Prior to her time at Laney College, Harris played over 15 years professionally (Euroleague, overseas, Athletes Unlimited), was a Player Executive Committee Member for Athletes Unlimited, and volunteered as an assistant girls basketball coach at Piedmont High School in Oakland, Calif., for the 2024-25 season.
"Bec brings a wealth of playing experience and someone who identifies well with the players," said Box. "We are more than excited to bring her onboard."
Harris has also spent time at Rend Lake College (2017-18, head coach), Mascoutah High School (2016-17, head coach), Chipola College (2012-13, assistant coach) and helped assist in coaching numerous junior teams during her time overseas.
Harris earned her bachelor's degree in speech communications from Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 2008.
Simeon Spurling
Spurling comes to Miami after three years on the women's basketball staff at Xavier. He was promoted to Assistant Coach/Director of Player Development and Technology prior to the 2025-26 season and was the Director of Player Development/Technology Coordinator from 2023-25 with the Musketeers.
"Thank you to Coach Box for this tremendous opportunity to join a championship program," said Spurling. "I can't wait to help bring more success to Oxford and create more incredible experiences for our student athletes!"
In his three years at Xavier, Spurling helped produce two All-Big East freshmen award winners and helped coach a defensive unit that finished fourth in conference play in field-goal percentage (.412) and third in turnovers forced per game (20.1) in 2024-25. This past season, the Musketeers defense was even better, holding the opposition to a .406 field goal percentage and posting 9.9 steals per contest.
Spurling joined the Musketeers after two seasons as an assistant coach at Loyola University Maryland (2021-23). He helped the Greyhounds win double-figure games in 2023 for the time since 2016-17.
"Sim is someone who checks a lot of boxes for us," said Box. "Coach is a true basketball guy who connects well with kids, agents, and recruits. He will be extremely impactful."
Spurling assisted in coaching Lex Therien to All-Patriot League Second-Team honors in 2022-23. The two-time all-conference honoree was also tabbed the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and the ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2021-22.
Prior to Loyola University Maryland, Spurling was the video coordinator at UCLA from 2018-21. The Bruins went 65-24 (38-14 Pac-12) with Spurling on the staff, while advancing to two NCAA Tournaments including the Sweet 16 in 2019.
Spurling was the video coordinator for the Los Angeles Sparks from 2016-18. The Sparks won the WNBA Championship in 2016 with Spurling on staff.
Prior to the Los Angeles Sparks, he served as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Hope International University from 2010-17. Spurling coached three all-conference players at Hope International and two NAIA All-Americans. The 2013-14 squad won the Golden State Athletic Conference Championship and advanced to the NAIA Postseason Tournament for the first time in program history.
The Long Beach, Calif., native holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern New Hampshire University ('22).
Spurling and his wife, Kelly, reside in Cincinnati with their son Elijah.
