Matthew Barbolini added a goal in the second period for the RedHawks, while Ludvig Persson made a total of 19 saves in the Miami net. Both teams are now 0-0-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 1:21 2nd (Ferris State 1-0) | After a scoreless first period, Ferris State got on the board with a power play tally early in the second. Jason Brancheau took a pass from Brenden MacLaren behind the net and finished from the far side. Brad Marek added an assist for FSU on the play.
- 8:00 2nd (Miami 1-1) | The RedHawks dominated the next few minutes of action, finally tying the score after an extended series of opportunities in front of Logan Stein's cage. Max Dukovac was able to spin free from a defender in the left corner and find a cutting Zane Demsey, whose shot was deflected right to Barbolini for the equalizing tap-in.
- 2:18 3rd (Ferris State 2-1) | Ferris State re-took the lead early in the third period. Tyler Schleppe pushed the puck ahead in a 3-on-3 situation, and Stepan Pokorny was able to spin loose to slide it across to Jacob Dirks near the far post, making it 2-1 in favor of the visitors.
- 19:06 3rd (Miami 2-2) | With the Miami net empty, the RedHawks capitalized in the final minute of regulation to tie things up at 2-2. A hard shot from Hampus Rydqvist bounced to Red Savage, who was able to keep it alive despite being sprawled on the ice near the FSU net. Cassetti did the rest, knocking it past Stein to the delight of the home crowd.
