Men's Basketball
Last Week: Putting together its longest win streak of the season and taking down yet another one of the Mid-American Conference's top teams, Miami used a 41-point second half to pick up a big 67-59 road win at the University at Buffalo on Tuesday evening inside Alumni Arena. Senior guard Geovonie McKnight amassed 21 points for the RedHawks in the winning effort. (Recap) After rebounding from a tough start to its season finale, Miami's valiant comeback effort came up just short in a 67-65 loss to Ohio University Friday evening on Senior Night at Millett Hall. McKnight finished his home career with a 22-point performance, while fellow senior guard Eric Washington posted the second double-double of his career with 10 points and a career-high-tying 10 assists. It was McKnight's third 20-point game in his last four outings. (Recap) Earlier in the week, Washington was tabbed the MAC East Division Player of the Week for his efforts the previous week in wins against Akron and Kent State. (Release) This Week: Miami begins its stint in the 2016 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The RedHawks are the No. 11 seed and travel to No. 6 seed Ball State for a 7 p.m. game on Monday, Feb. 7. With a win, the RedHawks would advance to the MAC Tournament quarterfinals in Cleveland against No. 3 seed Buffalo on Thursday, March 10. The game would begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 6:30 p.m. game.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami dropped its final two games of the regular season. The RedHawks used a spirited effort, but could not quite get over the hump as it fell to Kent State University, 59-53, on Wednesday evening in Kent. (Recap) A difficult opening quarter proved too much to overcome for Miami as it fell, 77-58, to Ohio University Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Millett Hall. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks are the 12th seed in the MAC Tournament and will travel to Akron Monday for a First Round game that tips at 7 p.m. With victories, Miami will participate in the remainder of the MAC Tournament beginning with the quarterfinals Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
Hockey
Last Week: Miami had an inauspicious ending to its regular season, dropping both games at Minnesota Duluth to drop to the No. 5 seed and beginning on the road for the NCHC Tournament. The RedHawks were only able to muster up 15 shots and drew just one minor penalty on the Bulldogs while falling 5-0 on Friday night. (Recap) Things picked up a little bit for Miami on Saturday as Kiefer Sherwood's goal late in the second period tied things up at 1-1 after 40 minutes. However, UMD killed off a carryover power play and scored just over two minutes into the third before withstanding extended 6-on-5 MU pressure in the final minutes before eventually netting an empty net goal to seal a 3-1 win. (Recap) This Week: Miami will return to Minnesota Duluth for a best-of-three series starting on Friday night.
Golf
Last Week: Miami was idle last week. This Week: The RedHawks will compete in the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C. Miami will play 36 holes on Monday and finish the event with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
Softball
Last Week: The RedHawks went 2-3 at their home Miami Invitational over the weekend. The RedHawks got it off to a successful start with a 7-2 victory over Dayton on Friday. (Recap) Miami got a split on Saturday. Behind four home runs, the RedHawks downed Western Illinois, 8-0, in their first game. That contested ended after five innings due to the run rule. Miami then dropped a heartbreaking, 9-8, game to IUPUI in the nightcap. (Recap) The RedHawks fell to Western Illinois, 2-1, and IUPUI, 10-1, to conclude the tournament on Sunday. (Recap) This Week: Miami heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma to participate in the Mizuno Classic this weekend. On Friday, the RedHawks will take on Cleveland State at 4 p.m. (EDT) and the host Oklahoma State at 6:30 p.m. (EDT). On Saturday, Miami will have rematches with Cleveland State at 1 p.m. (EDT) and Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. (EDT).
Baseball
Last week: The Red & White kicked off the weekend downing Tennessee Tech, 9-4, on Friday. Freshman pitcher Michael Hendricks got his first collegiate start, going 5.2 innings strong. He also picked up the win to move to 2-0 on the year. Offensively, Miami got multi-hit performances from Dallas Hall and Tyler Harris. Harris and Chad Sedio racked up three RBI apiece. (Recap) Saturday's contest saw a back-and-forth battle, with Miami coming out on top, 11-10. Leading the charge were Hall, Gary Russo and Adam Yacek, who each collected two hits and two RBI. Ross Haffey and Jake Romano also posted multi-hit games (Recap). Sunday did not start well for Miami as TTU held a 8-0 lead after three innings of play. The RedHawks would go on to outscore the Golden Eagles 6-2 the rest of the way but they came up just short, falling 10-6. The defeat ended the team's four-game winning streak. Despite losing its getaway game, MU came back to Oxford with their first series win of 2016. (Recap) This Week: The 'Hawks kick off a home-and-home series at Dayton on Tuesday with Wednesday serving as the squad's home opener. First pitch for Wednesday will be at 6 p.m.
Women's Tennis
Last Week: Miami was idle
This Week: The RedHawks head south this weekend for a pair of matches against nationally-ranked teams at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. On Saturday March 12, they will face 43rd-ranked Georgia State University at 1 p.m. The following day will see Miami take on the hosting 66th-ranked Winthrop Eagles at 10 a.m.
Men's Swimming
Last Week: Miami University's men's swimming and diving team wrapped up their 2015-16 campaign with the Mid-American Conference Championships at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich. RedHawks saw drops in their times across the board and set a total of three new school records. Senior Jacob Prodoehl broke two school records in the 100-yard (48.76) and 200-yard backstroke (1:46.34), claiming third and fifth, respectively. Junior Lucas Brock set the third school record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:37.69). Both record breakers received All-MAC kudos with Prodoehl named to All-MAC First Team and Brock to the All-MAC Second Team. The four-day competition saw multiple NCAA B cuts by Brock (200 free), senior Evan Bader (100 breast), sophomore Thomas Blackstone (100 and 200 breast) and Prodoehl (200 back). Some highlights of the meet included the 50-yard freestyle where Miami claimed four of the top-eight spots. Brock, Prodoehl, Blackstone and junior Jack Strauss took fourth-seventh places, tallying a total of 54 points for the RedHawks. Senior diver Cole Fryman snagged a sixth-place spot in the three-meter competition, collecting a total of 335.20 points. The 200-yard freestyle relay team took third with a combined time of 1:20.34.
