RedHawks Conclude Four-Day Stint at MAC Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Miami University's men's swimming and diving ended their 2015-16 season with the fourth and final day of the Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday, Mar. 5, at Eastern Michigan. Day four saw a new school record in the 200-yard backstroke. Miami ended the competition in fifth place with a total of 449 points.
Many RedHawks saw significant improvements and new personal bests set over the course of the four-day competition.
Senior Jacob Prodoehl re-wrote the books once again, setting a new record in the 200-yard backstroke. Prodoehl touched the wall at 1:46.34, beating the record fellow senior RedHawk Davis Staley (1:46.54) set back in 2014. Prodoehl established the new 100-yard backstroke record during yesterday's competition. Prodoehl's efforts earned him the fifth-place spot on the podium.
Just behind Prodoehl was freshman Jake Precious (1:48.99) in tenth, senior Sean Neri in eleventh and Staley in 16th, respectively.
Miami had top finishers in other events including the 200-yard butterfly. Freshman Robert Newman took sixth place with his time of 1:49.08. In the 100-yard freestyle, junior Lucas Brock clocked a time of 44.60, earning seventh place. Just behind him was junior Jack Strauss (45.24) in tenth.
Senior diver Cole Fryman snagged a sixth-place spot on the podium with his performance in the three-meter competition. Fryman tallied a total of 335.20 points, making him the top finishing RedHawk in the event. Senior Michael Nash earned tenth with his total 314.90 points.
In the 1650-yard freestyle, freshman Nick Potter (15:53.52) finished 11th followed by senior Christopher Dieter (16:00.71) in 13th. Sophomore Thomas Blackstone led the way for Miami in the 200-yard breaststroke in 11th, coming in at 1:59.94, followed by senior Evan Bader in 12th.
The RedHawks were just one second off another school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Miami was represented in the event by Strauss, Prodoehl, Dieter and Brock. The foursome swam to a combined team time of 2:59.89.
Two swimmers received All-MAC kudos after the competition had concluded. Prodoehl was named to All-MAC First Team and Brock was named to the All-MAC Second Team.
