Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks reached .500 for the first time in the 2016 calendar year but were unable to climb above it after a weekend split at Western Michigan. Anthony Louis netted a pair of goals and Miami scored in every period of Friday night's 4-1 series opening victory. (Recap) While looking for its first series sweep at Western Michigan since the 2008-09 season, the Broncos scored three times in a 2:53 span from the end of the first period to the 1:30 mark of the second to grab a stunning 3-0 lead. While Kevin Morris added his second power play goal of the weekend shortly after Griffen Molino's shorthanded tally, Molino finished a hat trick later in the period as WMU returned the favor with an identical 4-1 decision on Saturday to leave MU in a three-way tie for fourth-place in the NCHC standings. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks host their final home games of the regular season when they take on Colorado College on Friday (7:35 p.m.) and Saturday (7:05 p.m.). There will be a Teddy Bear Toss during the second intermission of Friday's contest and the RedHawks will hold a Senior Night ceremony prior to Saturday's finale.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Despite an incredibly gutsy effort by the RedHawks on Saturday afternoon, Miami was topped by Ohio at the Convocation Center, 76-64. Sophomore guards Dion Wade and Abdoulaye Harouna recorded career highs of 16 and 15 points, respectively. (Recap) Senior guard Eric Washington scored 19 points and senior guard Geovonie McKnight added 17, but it was not enough as the Miami dropped a 73-56 decision to Ball State on Tuesday evening inside Millett Hall. (Recap) This Week: Miami returns home to host a pair of games beginning with a 7 p.m. game against MAC leader Akron on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Tuesday's game will be televised on ASN and ESPN3 and is Paws for a Cause Night. The RedHawks then host Kent State at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27. Saturday's game will be aired on ESPN3 and is a McFamily and Friends Day with a pre-purchase ticket offer that includes four game tickets and four McDonald's Extra Value Meal vouchers for just $30.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami dropped a pair of conference games on the road last week. A tough shooting night and too many turnovers resulted in a 72-44 defeat to Mid-American Conference leader Ohio by the RedHawks on Wednesday. Freshman guards Leah Purvis and Kendall McCoy led Miami with 12 points each. (Recap) The RedHawks had a great defensive effort throughout the first half, but a 15-0 run in the middle of the third quarter by Buffalo changed the momentum and led the Bulls to a 58-39 win on Saturday. McCoy and sophomore guard Kayla Brown led the way with 11 points each. (Recap) This Week: Miami returns home to take on Akron for the Paws for a Cause game Wednesday at 7 p.m. The RedHawks then head to Bowling Green Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip. Both contests will air live on ESPN3.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: With a season-high score of 181.60, the senior synchronized skating team capped off a stellar weekend at the Spring Cup with a silver-medal finish among a 14-team international field. It is the second international silver medal for the RedHawk senior team this season. Miami was edged by a mere 2.46 points by first-place Team Surprise from Sweden, who posted a combined score of 184.06. Miami had clean skates in both programs and also notched the best technical element scores of the competition in both the short program and free skate events. (Saturday Recap) (Sunday Recap) This Week: There is little rest for the RedHawk senior team who heads to the U.S. National Championships this week along with Miami's collegiate and junior teams. The national championships will be held in Kalamazoo, Mich., Feb. 25-27 with the senior team competing Thursday and Saturday, the junior team competing Thursday and Friday and the collegiate team competing Saturday.
Women's Tennis
Last Week: Miami traveled to Lincoln, Neb. and split a pair of matches against hosting Nebraska and Memphis. On Friday, the Cornhuskers used the opening doubles point and three quick singles victories to clinch the victory at 4-0, but the RedHawks continued to compete and grabbed the final three singles points to make the final score 4-3. (Recap) Saturday's match saw Memphis take an early lead with a doubles victory, but the RedHawks would soon take over in singles competition. Miami nearly swept the action and left Nebraska with a 5-2 victory over the Tigers. Freshmen Anzhelika Shapovalova and Emily Struble went undefeated for the weekend, with Shapovalova earning her second victory of the season over a No. 1 Big Ten opponent by beating Nebraska's Maggy Lehmicke, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8). Senior Ana Rajkovic, junior Andreea Badileanu, and sophomores Anastasiia Vasiukhina and Hannah Shteyn also earned wins over the weekend. (Recap) This Week: Miami remains on the road to face Samford in Lexington, Ky. on Saturday, Feb. 27 at noon, before returning home to host Wright State on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, Ohio.
Softball
Last Week: Miami had a successful start to the season as it went 2-2 against tough competition at the Panther Invitational in Atlanta. The RedHawks dropped a pair of contests to open the 2016 season on Friday. In the morning, the RedHawks fell to fifth-ranked Alabama, 10-2, in six innings. Miami then ran into a strong pitcher as it was no-hit in a 3-0 loss to Georgia State in the afternoon. (Recap) The RedHawks earned their first victory of the season with a 7-1 win over Maryland Saturday. (Recap) Miami used the long ball to jump on Mercer early, only to see the Bears tie the game late and send it to extra innings. The RedHawks then refocused and score two in the top of the eighth to down Mercer, 6-5, to close play at the Panther Invitational on Sunday. (Recap) This Week: Miami will head to Chattanooga, Tennessee this weekend where it will compete in six games at the Frost Classic. On Friday, the RedHawks will take on Evansville at 11 a.m. and 18th-ranked Kentucky at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, Miami faces Northern Kentucky at 11 a.m. and the host Chattanooga at 1:30 p.m. Next Sunday, the 'Hawks complete play at the event with Eastern Illinois at 11 a.m. and Lipscomb at 1:30 p.m.
Track and Field
Last Week: The RedHawks split the squad between the Buckeye Tune-Up and the Alex Wilson Invitational. A highlight of the Buckeye Tune-Up came in the mile when Alesha Vov k posted a time of 4:56.11 to win the event and set a new personal best. Alex Cameron (5:08.86; 6th), Kelsey Kohls (5:13.07; 7th), McKenna Kiple (5:19.14; 8th) all scored for the RedHawks. In the men's race, Kane Dixon made his indoor debut finishing seventh in 4:22.64 fellow RedHawk Cody Reisterer was ninth in 4:24.34. Vovk's time pushes her to the number eight spot on the all-time top-10 performers list, just ahead of Miami standout Rachel Patterson. In her debut at 800m, Kathie Wollney finished second in 2:15.65 the second fastest RedHawk time this season. Fellow RedHawk Alexis Szivan was sixth in 2:17.89. Johnathan Fee made his debut in the men's 800m, finishing seventh in 1:57.77. (Recap) At the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame, Andrew Dusing and Stephen Biebelhausen took on a strong field in the mile and returned personal-best performances. Dusing clocked in 4:06.51 to knock five seconds off his previous best and finish eighth. Biebelhausen posted a time of 4:15.80 to take a second off his previous best and place 17th on the day. Dusing's time ranks him fifth in the Mid-American Conference standings with only .31 seconds between second and fifth places in the conference standings. Biebelhausen's time locks him at the 15th place on the conference performance list. At 3000m, Joe Stewart and Zack McBride took third and fourth in 8:15.22 and 8:15.44 respectively. This gives them the seventh and eighth fastest times in the conference. McBride improved his personal best by 16 seconds from his mark set at the Meyo Invitational earlier this season. Stewart's time gave him a one second improvement on his personal best at 3000m in his first race of the season. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawk women head to the University of Akron for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 26-27.
Baseball
Last Week: The RedHawks opened the 2016 season at Campbell last weekend, going 1-2 to open the year. Friday's contest was closer than the 7-0 score would indicate if not for a few defensive miscues. (Recap) Saturday saw a Miami team with a little more hop in its step offensively. Gary Russo and Ross Haffey both collected multi-hit efforts, including the first home run of the young season for Russo. Despite the improvement, Miami dropped a tight 5-3 decision. (Recap) Sunday's game was a nail-biter as the RedHawk bullpen closed out the game strong to give Miami a 5-4 win, their first of the season. Russo also homered in Sunday's game, giving Miami a 5-3 lead at the time. Freshman Michael Hendricks picked up the win, the first of his collegiate career, while Ryan Marske collected the save. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks travel to Nashville, Tenn. this weekend to partake in the Mule Mix Classic where they will face Lipscomb, Belmont and Middle Tennessee State.

This Week: Miami heads to Bowling Green, Ohio, for the Mid-American Conference Championships Feb. 24-27.
