Senior Team Earns Silver at Spring Cup

MILAN, Italy-With a season-high score of 181.60, the Miami University senior synchronized skating team capped off a stellar weekend at the Spring Cup with a silver-medal finish among a 14-team international field. One of two senior teams representing the United States at the event, Miami was edged by a mere 2.46 points by first-place Team Surprise from Sweden, who posted a combined score of 184.06.
After posting a season-best score of 61.90 in the short program on Saturday, Miami came back with another season-best performance as the RedHawks amassed a score of 119.70 for their Latin dance-themed free skate. Miami earned a technical element score of 53.62 and a program component score of 66.08 for its long program.
The RedHawks bested their nearest competitors-third-place Team Tatarstan from Russia-by 13.22 points. Team Tatarstan recorded a combined score of 168.39 and was followed by Germany's Team Berlin 1 (163.26), Italy's Hot Shivers (156.84), France's Zoulous (156.54), USA's Adrian College (153.66), Hungary's Team Passion (147.10), Switzerland's Cool Dreams (137.84), Spain's Team Fusion (103.10), Croatia's Zagreb Snowflakes (94.50), Italy's Ladybirds (87.82), Belgium's Team Temptation (80.10) and Great Britain's Spirit (73.46).
Miami had clean skates in both programs and also notched the best technical element scores of the competition in both the short program and free skate events.
There is little rest for the RedHawk senior team who heads to the U.S. National Championships this week along with Miami's collegiate and junior teams. The national championships will be held in Kalamazoo, Mich., Feb. 25-27 with the senior team competing Thursday and Saturday, the junior team competing Thursday and Friday and the collegiate team competing Saturday.
