FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - For the third time this season, Miami University senior goaltender Connor Knapp has been named CCHA Goaltender of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is his third career weekly honor as well, while the three awards this year tie Michigan's Shawn Hunwick for the most CCHA Goalie of the Week honors with all of Knapp's coming in the last seven weeks.
Knapp (York, N.Y.) was stellar in net for the RedHawks this weekend, backstopping them to a sweep of No. 13 Notre Dame. He allowed just one goal all weekend, which came when UND was on a 5-on-3 power play. He posted a 0.50 GAA for the weekend with a .983 save percentage while stopping 59 of 60 shots he faced.
Friday, Knapp pitched his third shutout of the season and 11th of his career by stopping all 31 shots that were on goal. He is now one shutout shy of tying the school's career shutout mark of 12, held by classmate Cody Reichard and David Burleigh ('03). Saturday, he made 28 saves while allowing just the two-man advantage goal. He also helped Miami go 7-for-8 on the penalty kill, making a whopping 17 saves while short-handed.
Knapp dropped his goals-against average to 1.65, which is second nationally, while his .934 save percentage ranks third, and both lead the CCHA. He was the No. 1 star of both games as well. He has now won 10 of his last 13 starts and hasn't allowed more than one goal in nine of his last 11 games. In league play only, he is also tops in the CCHA with a 1.55 GAA and a .939 save percentage.
Knapp will be among 10 seniors to play their final regular-season home game Friday, when Miami hosts No. 17 Ohio State at 6:05 p.m. at Steve Cady Arena on Senior Night. The seniors will be honored following the game due to the early start time. The RedHawks then travel to Columbus to face the Buckeyes Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
