Former Miami Hockey head coach Bill Davidge passed away this week. He was 72 years old.
Â
Davidge, the second varsity head coach for the Red and White and one of only seven in program history, started out as a graduate assistant with the team in 1977. He earned a Master's degree from Miami University in 1978 and worked as an assistant under Steve Cady before serving as Miami's head coach from 1985-1989 while also teaching in the university's physical education department. Davidge was instrumental in the development of the Miami Hockey program, helping it transition from club sport to varsity sport while continuing to make strides in the CCHA during his tenure. He was also crucial in recruiting top hockey players to Miami and continued to reside in Oxford and support the team even following his coaching tenure, and was part of the Miami Golf program for several seasons as well. He is still the namesake for Miami Hockey's outstanding offensive player award each season. Davidge went on to scout for several different NHL teams before becoming a broadcaster for the Columbus Blue Jackets, a role he held for nearly two decades.
