FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - For the fifth time this season and second straight week, a RedHawk captured CCHA Gongshow Rookie of the Week honors as Miami University freshman forward Blake Coleman garnered the award Monday, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced. It is his first career CCHA weekly award.
Coleman (Plano, Texas) finished with three points on the weekend and a +2 rating, helping Miami split with No. 19 Northern Michigan. Friday, he scored Miami's lone goal and was +1 in the game while blocking a shot. He was also the game's third star. Saturday, he dished out a pair of assists, which marked a career high, one of which was the primary assist. He is now riding a career-long three-game point streak. He blocked a shot and was +1 Saturday as well and put four shots on goal.
On the year, Coleman has played in 27 games and is tied for fourth on the team with 15 points, including eight goals, which ties for second on the team. He also has a +12 rating on the year, which shares the Miami lead.
Freshman forward Austin Czarnik has won CCHA Rookie of the Week three times this year, including last week, while classmate Tyler Biggs won Rookie of the Week for the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 6. Miami has won a total of 13 CCHA weekly awards now as junior forward Reilly Smith is a three-time Offensive Player of the Week, senior goalie Connor Knapp is a two-time Goalie of the Week and three Miami defensemen have won CCHA Defenseman of the Week.
Coleman and the rest of the RedHawks return to the ice this weekend when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a two-game series Friday and Saturday night against No. 7/8 Michigan.
