Miami Hockey Postgame Notes
Senior goaltender Connor Knapp had his six-game winning streak snapped as he allowed more than one goal for the first time since a 5-3 win on Dec. 9, 2011 against Ohio State. His last loss was Dec. 2, 2011 at Northern Michigan.
The RedHawks allowed a season-low 13 shots on goal, besting the previous low of 16 against Bowling Green on Nov. 19. The 13 shots also tied NMU's season low for shots, doing so on Nov. 11 against Ohio State as well.
Miami had no penalties in the loss to Northern Michigan, tying a school record for fewest penalties and penalty minutes in a game. The last time the RedHawks stayed out of the penalty box for a full game was during the 1996-97 season when Miami accomplished the feat twice, Feb. 22 1997 against Michigan State and March 22, 1997 against Cornell in the NCAA Tournament.
With the 2-1 loss, the RedHawks fell to 7-6 in one goal games this year. Of Miami's 27 games this year, 22 have been decided by two or fewer goals.
Junior forward Reilly Smith saw his season-long five-game point streak come to an end as did freshman forward Jimmy Mullin's career-long four-game point streak.
Freshman forward Blake Coleman scored his eighth goal of the season Friday. Coleman and fellow freshmen Tyler Biggs, Austin Czarnik, Jimmy Mullin and Alex Wideman have combined for 29 goals on the season, which accounts for 39.2 percent of the team's 74 goals.
