RedHawks Sweep Weekend Against Kent State

OXFORD, Ohio – Coming off a win against the Kent State Golden Flashes yesterday, the Miami University RedHawks swept their Saturday doubleheader, winning 9-8 in extra innings in the first game and then run-ruling the visitors 10-2 in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
- The Golden Flashes scored three times in the top of the first, coming around from second base on a single, scoring on a groundout from third, and then again off a single, racing in from third.
- Bringing it back to tie the game in the bottom of the same inning, Mia Estrello scored off a throwing error that also allowed Danitza Hernandez to advance to third and Evey Dieudonne to reach first. Leila Mathis then singled and allowed Dieudonne to score, unearned, and Hernandez to score.
- The Golden Flashes scored on a single to left field to take a one-run lead in the top of the third.
- Increasing their lead to 7-3 in the fourth, the Golden Flashes scored off a single hit and reached second on a fielding error before crossing the plate twice on a pair of singles.
- Tightening the gap to 7-6 in the same inning, Ella Carter scored, unearned, off a fly out by Mckenna Campbell. Madie Patton ran home after a double hit by Estrello. The RedHawks' third run came after Hernandez ripped a single right up the middle, allowing Estrello to run home from third.
- The RedHawks grabbed an 8-7 lead in the fifth inning, as Campbell was credited with two runs on her single to right field. Her hit brought home Carter from second and Kari Krueger from third.
- Making it a tie game in the sixth, the Golden Flashes reached on a fielding error and scored, unearned, from third.
- Miami claimed victory in the bottom of the ninth, as Erin Pinter hit a single to center field and allowed Krueger to run home for the 9-8 win.
NOTES
- Léa Chevrier pitched 4.0 total innings and allowed only four total hits and no earned runs. This was her sixth win of the season.
- Mckenna Campbell went 1-for-2 at the plate and was credited with three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
- Opening up scoring in the second inning, the Golden Flashes scored from third off a double to right field.
- Miami responded to take a 6-1 lead in the same inning. Mathis hit a triple and then was able to bring it home when Krueger hit a double. Pinter then hit a single and allowed Dieudonne to score from third. Bringing in the third and fourth runs, Estrello singled to center field and allowed Pinter and Krueger to score. Campbell then singled up the middle and allowed both Olive and Estrello to score for the Red and White.
- In the third, Pinter stole both second and third base as Estrello was up to bat and was able to score when Estrello hit a single, bringing the score to 7-1.
- The Golden Flashes scored off a double to left center in the fifth to make the score 7-2.
- Increasing the Miami lead to 8-2 in the fifth, Krueger ran home off a sacrifice fly by Olive.
- Enacting the run rule, Miami finished things off in the sixth inning with Campbell running home off a sacrifice fly by Patton and Pinter driving in the final run to make it 10-2.
NOTES
- Mckenna Campbell went 3-for-4 at the plate, had one run and was credited with two RBI.
- Leila Mathis went 2-for-4 at the plate and brought in two runs.
- Léa Chevrier pitched a total of 6.0 innings and allowed only two earned runs. This is her seventh win of the season.
- Kari Krueger went 2-for-3 at the plate, had two runs and was credited with one RBI.
- Erin Pinter went 2-for-3 at the plate, had two runs and was credited with two RBI.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will host the Kentucky Wildcats in Oxford, Ohio, on Tuesday, March 31, at 5 p.m.
