RedHawks Use Dominant Start to Win Conference Opener, 2-0

DeKALB, Ill.— The Miami University soccer team posted a 2-0 win on the road at Northern Illinois Sunday afternoon. The RedHawks move to 4-3-0 (1-0-0 MAC) with the result in their first conference match of the season. The Huskies are now 2-4-1 (0-1-0 MAC).
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Miami opened up the scoring in the eighth minute. After a cross from Katie O'MalleyKayla Perfect headed the ball and it was finally put in the back of the net by Morhéa Hoefen on the rebound.
  • The RedHawks added to their lead in the 17th minute on an incredible off-balance goal by Caroline Mortonson that skied over the NIU goalkeeper.
                                   
NOTES
  • The RedHawks' defense didn't allow a NIU shot in the first half.
  • Hoefen produced her first goal of the year and now has five points on the season.
  • Dominique Popa recorded her third shutout of the season.
 
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks will look to stay undefeated in conference play on Thursday, Sept. 18 vs Western Michigan. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. at Bobby Kramig Field.
