Miami Soccer Adds Layla Jakins to Roster

OXFORD, Ohio— Miami University Soccer announced today that Layla Jakins will join the RedHawks ahead of the 2026 season. Jakins, a 5-foot-11 defender from San Luis Obispo, Calif., spent last year with Colorado State University.
"We are thrilled to welcome Layla to our program," said head coach Courtney Sirmans. "She brings a tremendous work ethic and a strong drive to improve every single day. Layla has an outstanding presence on the field, and we expect her to make an immediate impact on our back line. She is dominant in the air and will be a major threat on set pieces.
"Beyond her talent, Layla possesses a winning mentality that will further strengthen our already-competitive environment as we continue striving to be a consistent contender in the MAC. We cannot wait for her to join her teammates in July and begin this next chapter with our program."
Miami will host Purdue Fort Wayne in an exhibition on Aug. 8 before the RedHawks open the regular season at Xavier on Aug. 16.

- Played a total of 142 minutes and was credited with one shot on goal
- Recognized as CIF Scholar Athlete in high school and was a four-year honor roll member
- Collected two goals and three assists in 37 varsity high school games
- Father, Tahj, played pro soccer for MLS franchises in Colorado and Kansas City
