
RedHawks Lose Back-and-Forth Battle to WMU, 3-2

OXFORD, OH— The Miami University soccer team posted a 3-2 loss against Western Michigan Thursday evening at Bobby Kramig Field. The RedHawks move to 4-4-0 (1-1-0 MAC) with the result in their first home conference match of the season. Western Michigan is now 5-2-0 (1-0-0 MAC).

Miami returns to action Sunday, Sept. 21 at Buffalo for a 1 p.m. Mid-American Conference match. The RedHawks will then host Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Bobby Kramig Field. Fans attending next Thursday's match in Oxford should note that many streets around Yager Stadium will be closed due to the Homecoming parade which begins at 6 p.m. that evening, including Bonham Rd. The best way to access the 9/25 Miami Soccer match will be via Shadowy Hills Dr., or fans coming to Oxford from the north can use Gate 3 off of State Route 732.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami opened the scoring in the 33rd minute from a signature Juliann Kidd throw into the box that was headed in by senior Rachel Noonan.
- The Broncos answered back in the final minute of the first half from the right foot of forward Abby Werthman.
- The RedHawks came firing back in the 47th minute from a free kick by Katie O'Malley that found Sophia Penegor on the far side for the goal.
- The Broncos tied it in the 56th minute from a free kick set piece inside the box courtesy of Avery Peters.
- Western Michigan then took the lead on what proved to be the winning goal in the 62nd minute by a Meredith Vance shot from the center of the box.
NOTES
- Noonan scored the first goal of her career.
- Penegor netted her second goal of the season.
- The RedHawks out-shot Western Michigan 10-8 (7-4 in the second half)
