MUNCIE, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon the Miami University softball team dropped a pair of games to Ball State University. In game one the RedHawks fell 3-0 to the Cardinals, and in game two Ball State shut out the RedHawks again, this time 5-0. The RedHawks move to 25-18 (14-3 Mid-American Conference). The Cardinals move to 26-11 (11-5 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- The game remained scoreless through the first three innings.
- Ball State struck first, scoring two on a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Cardinals followed that up with a RBI double to increase the lead to 3-0.
- This score held through the end of the game to give the Cardinals the 3-0 win over the RedHawks.
NOTES:
- Ella Carter went 2-for-3 at the plate. Chloe Parks went 2-for-4.
- Parks and Shelby Kunkel each had doubles in the game.
- Madie Patton recorded her first career triple.
- Léa Chevrier pitched the complete game for the 'Hawks, striking out six and allowing just five hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- A solo homer from the Cardinals in the bottom of the second put Ball State on the board first with a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the third, a pair of RBI singles from Ball State pushed their advantage to 3-0.
- Two runs scored for Ball State on a RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead further to 5-0.
- The Cardinals held this lead to shut out the RedHawks for the second time on the day 5-0.
