
RedHawks Split Doubleheader with Zips

OXFORD, Ohio – On Tuesday afternoon the Miami University softball team split a two-game series with the University of Akron. In game one the Zips came out ahead 3-2 in nine innings. In game two, an explosive home run from Ella Carter helped the RedHawks to a 8-0 victory in five innings. The RedHawks move to 26-19 (15-4 Mid-American Conference) and Akron goes to 20-19 (7-7 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Mckenna Campbell got the RedHawks started in the bottom of the first with a solo home run over center to grab a 1-0 lead.
- The next four innings were quiet for both teams, neither adding a run to the board.
- In the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly and RBI double scored two for the Zips to make it a 2-1 game.
- The RedHawks tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth on an error that allowed Chloe Parks to cross home.
- The game remained tied through the end of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
- A solo home run for the Zips in the top of the ninth put them ahead 3-2. Akron held this through the remainder of the inning to take the win.
NOTES:
- Parks made her 200th career start and went 2-for-4 at the plate.
- The RedHawks had three extra-base hits.
- Madilyn Reeves pitched the complete nine innings, allowing just six hits and striking out seven.
- The RedHawks completed their third error-less game in a row, their longest streak of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- Parks hit a RBI single in the bottom of the first to let Kaylee Oh cross home and to take a 1-0 Miami lead.
- Still in the bottom of the first, Shelby Kunkel scored on a throwing error to double the RedHawks' lead to 2-0.
- A sac groundout from Carter later in the first pushed Parks across home to make it a 3-0 deficit.
- In the bottom of the second, Oh scored on a RBI single from Kunkel to increase the lead to 4-0.
- Parks doubled in the bottom of the fifth to push Kunkel across home and up the lead to 5-0.
- Still in the fifth, Ella Carter hit a three-run homer that also scored Campbell and Parks to make it an 8-0 game final.
NOTES:
- Kunkel surpassed 100 career hits (101) and went 2-for-2 at the plate.
- Oh and Parks went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Five RedHawks had hits, three had more than one.
- Léa Chevrier got the win on the mound, pitching the complete game. She allowed just three hits and struck out four.
- With her eighth homer of the season, Carter now has the second most homers on the RedHawks.
