MUNCIE, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon the Miami University softball team dropped a pair of games to Ball State University. In game one the RedHawks fell 3-0 to the Cardinals, and in game two Ball State shut out the RedHawks again, this time 5-0. The RedHawks move to 25-18 (14-3 Mid-American Conference). The Cardinals move to 26-11 (11-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings.
Ball State struck first, scoring two on a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals followed that up with a RBI double to increase the lead to 3-0.
This score held through the end of the game to give the Cardinals the 3-0 win over the RedHawks.

NOTES:

Ella Carter went 2-for-3 at the plate. Chloe Parks went 2-for-4.
Parks and Shelby Kunkel each had doubles in the game.
Madie Patton recorded her first career triple.
Léa Chevrier pitched the complete game for the 'Hawks, striking out six and allowing just five hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

A solo homer from the Cardinals in the bottom of the second put Ball State on the board first with a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, a pair of RBI singles from Ball State pushed their advantage to 3-0.
Two runs scored for Ball State on a RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead further to 5-0.
The Cardinals held this lead to shut out the RedHawks for the second time on the day 5-0.

NOTES:

Danitza Hernandez and Parks had hits in the game.
Madilyn Reeves went the full seven innings on the mound. She struck out six and allowed just six hits.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks face the University of Akron in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
