MUNCIE, Ind. – On Friday evening the Miami University softball team defeated Ball State University 7-4 in eight innings. The RedHawks improve to 25-16 (14-1 Mid-American Conference). The Cardinals drop to 24-11 (9-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the top of the first, Mckenna Campbell hit a two-RBI single that allowed Jenna Golembiewski and Chloe Parks to cross home and take a 2-0 lead for the RedHawks.
A RBI single in the bottom of the third allowed a run to cross for the Cardinals, cutting the lead in half 2-1.
In the top of the fourth, Sydney Gilbert scored on a fielder's choice hit by Ella Carter to up the lead to 3-1.
Kaylee Oh followed that up with a sac fly that allowed Madie Patton to score and increase the lead to 4-1.
The Cardinals scored two in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI triple and a RBI single to shorten the gap to 4-3.
A throwing error allowed the Cardinals to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh. The RedHawks held this score through the end of the inning to send the game into extras.
In the top of the eighth, Carter took the lead back for the 'Hawks with a three-RBI home run over center field. Patton and Campbell also scored to make it a 7-4 game.
The RedHawks held this advantage through the end of the inning to take the 7-4 victory.

NOTES:

Shelby Kunkel went 2-for-4 at the plate. Campbell went 3-for-4.
Parks went 2-for-5 with two doubles. She also surpassed 50 hits on the season (51).
Carter had four RBI on the day.
Six RedHawks had hits in the game.
Madilyn Reeves pitched the complete game, striking out three, and giving up just seven hits.
