OXFORD, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, courtesy of two big homers from
Kaylee Oh and
Jenna Golembiewski, Miami University took down Northern Illinois University 5-3. The RedHawks improve to 14-15 (4-0 Mid-American Conference). Northern Illinois drops to 7-15 (2-2 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Northern Illinois jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with a solo home run over left field.
- The Huskies doubled their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third with a RBI single.
- A wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth allowed Ella Carter to cross home and halve the lead 2-1.
- A RBI single scored another run for the Huskies in the top of the sixth to increase their lead to 3-1.
- Oh tied the game up 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth with a long homer over the left field wall that also scored Danitza Hernandez.
- Golembiewski grabbed the lead for the RedHawks 5-3 in that same inning with a no-doubt homer easily clearing the center field wall. Shelby Kunkel also scored. The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the game.
NOTES:
- Madilyn Reeves pitched the complete game to get the win. She allowed just three runs and struck out six.
- Oh and Golembiewski each had two RBI on the day.
- The RedHawks had three extra base hits on the day.
- Five different RedHawks scored runs.
