COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Two representatives of Miami Hockey were named finalists for NCHC awards, the conference announced this afternoon. RedHawk captain Ryan Sullivan is one of four finalists for the NCHC Sportsmanship Award, while Miami play-by-play announcer Greg Waddell is one of three finalists for the NCHC Media Excellence Award.
Sullivan played all 34 games for Miami this year, producing six goals and four assists. He finished his collegiate career with 30 points in 153 games played, including winning a national championship with Massachusetts in 2021, and never committed a major penalty. The Grosse Pointe, Mich. native is a two-time member of the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and was named an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete in 2024. Sullivan, who received Miami's George Gwozdecky Blue Line Club Award last season, is pursuing a Master's degree in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Technology.
The NCHC Sportsmanship Award honors someone who has positively affected a community's sports culture and game environment, demonstrated sportsmanship, put others' needs ahead of his own, made difficult or unpopular decisions that are respectful of the game/opponent and displayed acts of integrity that go beyond the sport's playing rules and etiquette. The finalists are determined by the NCHC staff, with the winner of the conference's 2025 Sportsmanship Award to be announced at next Thursday's NCHC Awards Celebration in Saint Paul, Minn.
"Ryan has epitomized everything we want Miami Hockey to be about from a character and leadership perspective," said head coach Anthony Noreen. "His attitude and effort never veered no matter the circumstance. Also, he dedicated time and effort to helping in areas like Team IMPACT, youth hockey, and any other community service opportunity that became available.
"We have no doubt Ryan will continue to represent Miami University well in the future."
Waddell has served as the voice of Miami Hockey since 2006, broadcasting RedHawks games over the radio and more recently on NCHC.tv as well. This year, the broadcasts expanded to air on television (Rock Entertainment Sports Network). Waddell has been a fixture in the press box for the RedHawks for nearly two decades and is well-liked and well-respected around the conference.
"We are extremely grateful for the effort and dedication Greg makes to Miami Hockey," Noreen said. "His positive attitude and work ethic are greatly appreciated by those close and far that stay connected to our program."
The NCHC Media Excellence Award is voted on by the sports information directors of NCHC programs, and the winner will also be announced next week at the conference's Awards Celebration.
