HOW IT HAPPENED
- 7:54 1st (WMU 1-0) | Iiro Hakkarainen scored the game's first goal to put the Broncos on top. A backdoor pass from Zack Sharp to Bobby Cowan got deflected across the crease for Hakkarainen to knock in near the far goalpost.
- 16:08 1st (WMU 2-0) | The Broncos made it 2-0 late in the first period, as Ty Henricks looped around the top of WMU's offensive zone, received a return pass from Samuel Sjolund, skated forward into the circle and scored to double the hosts' lead.
- 1:51 2nd (WMU 3-0) | Two Miami penalties 19 seconds apart late in the first period gave Western Michigan an extended 5-on-3 power play. Although the RedHawks killed off both penalties after the first intermission, the puck stayed in the Miami defensive zone and WMU's William Whitelaw scored an even-strength goal from close range a few seconds later. Cowan and Hakkarainen had the assists.
- 18:46 2nd (WMU 4-0) | Henricks scored again shortly before the end of the second period, first knocking the puck away from Miami in the direction of Whitelaw and then getting a return pass across the crease to finish.
- 6:45 3rd (Miami 4-1) | The RedHawks cut into the lead in the third period, as Quinn sent a pass along the blue line for Lukashevich, who ripped a deep shot that bounced past WMU goaltender Hampton Slukynsky. Casper Nassen started the play with a pass to Quinn and also picked up an assist.
- 10:15 3rd (Miami 4-2) | Miami lit the lamp again near the midway point of the stanza, with Lukashevich stealing the puck away in the RedHawks' offensive zone after WMU sent a pass along the back boards. Lukashevich fed a pass to David Deputy, who teed up a one-timer from Quinn at the point to cut the deficit to 4-2.
- 10:28 3rd (WMU 5-2) | Western Michigan answered back 13 seconds later to restore its three-goal margin, as Garrett Szydlowski scored from a difficult angle after assists by Sam Huck and Theo Wallberg. Szydlowski's shot hit a skate in front and deflected in past Drobac for WMU's fifth goal.
- 13:14 3rd (WMU 6-2) | The Broncos got a breakaway goal from Liam Valente to make it 6-2 after Cole Crusberg-Roseen and Zach Nehring sent consecutive passes along the boards to move the puck quickly from one end of the rink to the other.
NOTES
- Lukashevich (2-9-11) produced his fourth multi-point game of the season and became the fourth RedHawk to reach double figures in points this year.
- Quinn's multi-point game was his first of the season and the second of his career (Jan. 11, 2025).
- This was only the second time all season Miami did not score the first goal of the game.
- Drobac recorded the most saves in a single game by any Miami goaltender since Feb. 25, 2023 (Ludvig Persson, 50).
