HOW IT HAPPENED
- 7:30 1st (Miami 1-0) | The RedHawks got on the board with a power-play goal in the opening period. After Ryan Smith's shot was deflected in the center of the offensive zone, Casper Nassen lunged to knock it free to Michael Quinn at the left point. Quinn skated in and fired to put the home team on top with the first goal of the season.
- 10:24 1st (Ferris State 1-1) | The Bulldogs equalized near the midway point of the stanza on a power play of their own. Chris Lie sent a pass over to Connor McGrath on his right, and Josh Zary was in the right place to tip home a rebound after McGrath's attempt in close.
- 13:17 1st (Ferris State 2-1) | FSU went on top less than three minutes later, as Riley Wallack won an offensive-zone faceoff to Xavier Jean-Louis, who promptly connected from deep to make it 2-1 in favor of the visitors.
- 14:32 1st (Miami 2-2) | Miami re-tied the score only 75 seconds later, as Vladislav Lukashevich sprung Giampa with a long pass up the left boards to get Giampa behind the FSU defense. The junior winger did the rest, beating Ferris State's Noah Rupprecht for the RedHawks' second goal. Lukashevich's assist came all the way from behind his own net after Ilia Morozov dropped the puck off there for his teammate.
- 7:42 2nd (Ferris State 3-2) | After a strong start to the second period by Miami with several high-quality scoring chances in the Ferris State zone, it was the Bulldogs who grabbed the first goal of the frame. Jean-Louis skated the puck along the boards and sent a pass to Jack Mesic at the point. Mesic's shot was then tipped home by McGrath in front to put FSU up 3-2.
- 5:43 3rd (Miami 3-3) | Nassen let loose with one of his patented one-timers only seconds after a power play expired in the third period to pull Miami level at 3-3. Lukashevich initially retrieved the puck and Doug Grimes relayed it from one faceoff circle to another to set up Nassen's blast. 33-19-71.
- 9:12 3rd (Miami 4-3) | The Red and White went back on top a few minutes later, when Justin Stupka knocked home a rebound of a Grimes shot. Michael Phelan fired from the top of the zone to get things started, and Grimes tracked down the loose puck off the end boards to send it back toward the net and tee up Stupka's go-ahead score.
- 16:23 3rd (Miami 5-3) | Giampa scored what would prove to be the game-winner on the power play with 3:37 remaining in the contest. Ryder Thompson sent a pass to Kocha Delic on his right, and after Delic's shot attempt bounced off a defender near the goal, the ensuing scramble in front of the net led to Giampa's heroics.
- 16:59 (Ferris State 5-4) | The Bulldogs wouldn't go away, scoring 36 seconds later to trim the margin to a single goal again. Emerson Goode lit the lamp, capitalizing on assists from Tanner Rowe and Lie.
- 18:44 3rd (Miami 6-4) | With Miami clinging to a late lead and the FSU net empty, a hustle play proved to be the difference. Ethan Hay won a race near the boards and flipped a pass toward the center of the rink, where an all-out dive from Maximilion Helgeson knocked the puck ahead for Bradley Walker to bat in a crucial insurance goal and account for the 6-4 final.
