ELON, N.C. – The Miami University RedHawks got the 2024 softball season started in their usual fashion, with a lot of home runs. In her first collegiate at-bat, Sami Bewick knocked a home run over left field to add to the total tally of five homers against the University of Evansville. The RedHawks went on to decimate Evansville 12-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Karli Spaid got the scoring this season started with a solo bomb over right field to put the RedHawks up 1-0 in the top of the first.
• Bewick followed that up with a homer of her own to double the Red and White's lead to 2-0.
• In the top of the second, Jenna Golembiewski made it a 3-0 game with a home run to left center.
• In that same inning, Reagan Bartholomew scored on an error and Kate Kobayashi scored on a fielder's choice that had Allie Cummins out at third. This put the RedHawks ahead 5-0.
• Spaid scored again in the top of the seventh on a Chloe Parks RBI single to center, putting Miami up 6-0.
• On a double from Maddi Banks, Shelby Kunkel, Logan Mueller, and Parks all scored to stretch the advantage to 9-0.
• Kobayashi and Cummins then each hit a home run. Banks scored on Kobayashi's bash to make it a 12-0 final. 

 
NOTES:

• In her first appearance as a RedHawk, Addy Jarvis pitched the entire game, striking out three and only allowing two hits.
• Cummins, Spaid, Bewick, Golembiewski, and Kobayashi all hit homers. Bewick's was the first of her career, in her first career at-bat.
• Kobayashi and Cummins each also hit a double.
• Eight RedHawks knocked in runs.
• The Miami defense was solid with just one error.
