2/28/2024 4:04:00 PM | Hockey
The Miami University hockey team hosts No. 18/18 Omaha this weekend in the final home series of the 2023-24 season. Miami is 7-20-3 (1-17-2 NCHC) after a 3-3 tie and 8-1 loss last weekend at then-No. 3 Denver. The Mavericks come in at 16-10-4 (9-8-3 NCHC) and took five of six possible points in the NCHC standings last week from then-No. 10 Colorado College, defeating the Tigers 3-0 and playing CC to a 1-1 tie the next day in the series finale.
This weekend's games are set for Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena in Oxford, with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. both nights. The games will stream on NCHC.tv, with radio coverage on WKBV 1490 AM (Richmond, Ind.). Greg Waddell and Drew Davis have the call.
Miami leads the all-time series against the Mavericks 29-25-7. Omaha captured all four meetings last season, and the two teams have not played each other yet this year. The RedHawks have won five of the last seven home contests in the series.
Matthew Barbolini (11-13-24) leads the RedHawks in points this season. The senior forward shares the team lead in goals with PJ Fletcher (11-12-23) and shares the team lead in assists with John Waldron (8-13-21). Logan Neaton is 6-10-2 in net and owns a 3.06 GAA and .901 save percentage in 18 starts, but hasn't played since Jan. 13 due to injury. Freshman netminder Bruno Bruveris is 1-10-1 between the pipes, with an .872 save percentage and 3.88 GAA.
Miami will recognize seven seniors before Saturday's home finale: Robby Drazner, Fletcher, Albin Nilsson, Thomas Daskas, Hampus Rydqvist, Dylan Moulton and Barbolini. Entering this weekend, they have produced a total of 240 points in their combined RedHawk careers (99 goals and 141 assists) and played a total of 656 games for Miami.
Drazner and head coach Chris Bergeron met with the media this week to preview the matchup against the Mavericks.
