Miami Drops to Western Michigan

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (4-9, 0-1 MAC) dropped a three-set match to Western Michigan University (11-2, 1-0 MAC) Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami got off to a hot start in the first, as they claimed an 8-3 lead after Western Michigan recorded three consecutive attack errors. The Broncos evened the score at 8-8 and took their first lead of the set at 10-9. Despite the strong push from Western Michigan, Ellie Hanson Knocked down a collection of kills to keep Miami within one point at 17-16. The Broncos finished the set with a 25-22 win.
- In the second set, Western Michigan jumped out to a 6-2 lead. The Red and White fought back to bring the score to 11 apiece halfway through the second set. Brooke Jackson, Maggie McCrary and Raegan Lantz each recorded a pair of kills to spark the run. Western Michigan then responded with a run of their own and took the set 25-16.
- Lantz and Gentry Warrick each knocked down early kills in the third set to give Miami a 3-2 lead. The Broncos followed this up by finding their rhythm after going on a 7-1 run to take a 9-4 advantage. Western Michigan continued this momentum into the rest of the set and closed the match with a 25-16 set win.
- Hanson had the match-high 14 digs.
- Hayden Hicks notched a team-high 20 assists.
- McCrary and Warrick put up a match-high two blocks.
