KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The RedHawks came out swinging in the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday against Western Michigan University. Miami took the game 11-0 in six innings. The shutout win went to
Brianna Pratt. In the second game, the RedHawks narrowly fell 2-1, bringing them to 17-14 on the season and 5-6 in Mid-American Conference competition. The Broncos now sit at 10-13 on the season and 4-1 in the MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- The RedHawks got it started in the top of the second inning with a pair of homers. Riley Coyne hit a solo shot over left field and Maddi Banks hit a two-run homer over center to also score Adriana Barlow, which gave Miami the early 3-0 lead.
- In the top of the third, Karli Spaid hit a two-run home run. Coyne then followed that up with her second homer of the game, taking the lead to 6-0.
- Jenna Golembiewski added another run to the board on a solo homer, increasing the lead to 7-0 in the top of the sixth.
- In that same inning, Holly Blaska hit an RBI double to score Coyne, Maggie Murphy, and Chloe Parks. Barlow then also doubled to score Blaska, taking it to 11-0, which would be the winning score.
NOTES:
- Barlow went 3-for-4 at the plate.
- Both Coyne and Parks went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Pratt threw a no-hitter and had eight strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- In the very first at-bat of the game, Golembiewski took one deep over left field to grab the 1-0 lead.
- Through the next three innings, neither team added a run.
- The Broncos tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Broncos took the lead 2-1 on an RBI single, which would win them the game.
NOTES:
- Allie Cummins, Spaid, and Golembiewski went 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Pratt struck out six and walked none.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks return to the field to face the University at Buffalo for another MAC series beginning Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
