
RedHawks Fall to Bobcats in Game One

ATHENS, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team fell to the Ohio University Bobcats with a final score of 13-10 Friday. The RedHawks fall to 10-26 (6-10 MAC). The Bobcats move to 14-16 (12-4 MAC).
The RedHawks and Bobcats fought hard in the opening game in the Battle of the Bricks. Miami ran the score up quickly, but the Bobcats rallied late in the game to claim their victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED

In the top of the third inning, David Novak got things started with a home run to center field. Benji Brokemond reached base via walk. Cooper Weiss followed up with a home run to plate two more. With the bases empty, Ryland Zaborowski walked. Zach MacDonald and Evan Appelwick followed up with back-to-back singles to left field to score Zaborowski for the final run of the inning, making it 4-0 RedHawks.

Leading off the top of the fourth inning, Dillon Baker reached base on an error. Brokemond walked, putting runners on first and second. Weiss answered with a double through the left side to bring both runners home and put the 'Hawks up 6-0.

With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Weiss doubled down the left field line. MacDonald answered with his own double to bring Weiss home, making it 7-0 RedHawks.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bobcats put themselves on the board, scoring one and making it 7-1 RedHawks.

Brian Zapp led off the seventh inning with a walk. After advancing to second from a ground out, Zapp scored on a single to left center off of Novak. Novak advanced from first to third on a ground out and wild pitch. Brokemond brought Novak home with a single down the right field line to put the Hawks up 9-1 in the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Bobcats tacked on two more runs to make it 9-3 RedHawks.

In the top of the eighth, Weiss kicked off the inning with a walk. After stealing second base, Weiss advanced to third and was brought home on back-to-back wild pitches, making it 10-3 RedHawks.

In the bottom half of the eighth, the Bobcats clawed their way back and put up a 10-run inning to take the lead for good, making the final score 13-10 Bobcats.
MIAMI GAME NOTES

Weiss went 3-for-4 with one walk, one home run and four RBI.

Novak went 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Connor Oliver pitched six innings, recording seven strikeouts, allowing six hits and only one run.

The RedHawks play the remaining two games of the series against Ohio University, Saturday, April 15. First pitches are set for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Athens, Ohio.
