
Miami Splits Doubleheader with Bobcats

ATHENS, Ohio--Â The Miami University baseball team split a doubleheader with the Ohio University Bobcats by the scores of 12-10 and 8-7 Saturday. The RedHawks are now 11-27 (7-11 MAC) on the year, while the Bobcats move to 15-17 (13-5 MAC).
Game one was an offensive explosion between the RedHawks and the Bobcats. Both teams fought it out until the end, but Miami came out victorious.Â
In game two, the RedHawks took an early lead before the Bobcats responded with offense late in the game to push the game to extras. The Bobcats won in walk-off fashion in the 10th inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

The top of the first started off with Benji Brokemond reaching base after being hit by pitch. After advancing to second on a wild pitch and taking third on a groundout, Brokemond scored on the second wild pitch of the inning and put Miami on the board 1-0.

The Bobcats answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to make it 3-1 Bobcats.

Brian Zapp walked to start the top of the second inning. Dom Magliocca hit a two-run home run to left field to tie it up, making it 3-3 .

In the top of the fourth, the RedHawks regained the lead with back-to-back solo home runs from David Novak and Dillon Baker, making it 5-3 RedHawks.

Cooper Weiss kept the energy going in the top of the fifth with a solo shot to left field. With one out in the inning, Zach MacDonald joined in on the fun and hit another solo home run to right center, putting the RedHawks up 7-3.

In the top of the seventh, Ryland Zaborowski hit a solo home run to left center to tack on one more run and make it 8-3 RedHawks.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Bobcats fought back fiercely, scoring seven runs and taking the lead 10-8.

In the top of the ninth, Weiss walked to lead off the inning. MacDonald singled through the left side. Evan Appelwick followed up with a double to left field, scoring Weiss and advancing MacDonald to third. Zapp reached base via walk to load the bases. With two outs and no room on the bases, Novak walked, forcing a run home. Baker followed up with a single to left field to score the final two runs for the Red and White and make it 12-10 Miami.

Miami's offense recorded six home runs among its 11 hits.

Baker went 3-for-4 with one home run, one walk and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

Miami kicked off the first inning with a leadoff double down the right field line by Brokemond. MacDonald hit a home run to left center to strike first and put the RedHawks up 2-0 in the first inning.Â

In the top of the second inning, Zapp got on base with a walk. Baker doubled to left center, scoring Zapp. Tommy Harrison followed up with another double to score Baker and make it 4-0 RedHawks in the second inning.

In the bottom half of the second, the Bobcats got on the board, scoring one and making it 4-1 RedHawks after two innings of work.

The Bobcats took the lead in the fourth, scoring four and making it 5-4 Bobcats.

In the bottom of the fifth, OU added two more runs to put the Bobcats up 7-4.

Miami kicked off the top of the seventh with a rally in mind. Zapp led off with a single through the right side. Novak followed up with a single to right field. Brokemond walked to load the bases. With the sacks jammed and the need for runs, Weiss delivered with a base clearing three-run double to tie the game up at 7-7.

In the bottom of the 10th, the Bobcats claimed a walk-off victory with a run-scoring single, making the final score 8-7 Bobcats.
