On March 24, 2002, the Miami baseball team opened a new chapter in its history when it opened Stanley G. McKie Field at Joseph P. Hayden Jr. Park. Over 1,100 fans were in attendance for the RedHawks' game against Purdue that day, and since then the friendly confines of McKie Field have become a signature of Red and White baseball.

Former Houston Astro and Miami ballplayer Bill Doran '79 officially started that first game by throwing the ceremonial first pitch to Don Crain '70. Tossing the real first pitch for the RedHawks was senior Russ Bayer to Purdue's Adam Fazio. Four pitches later, Fazio slapped a single through the right side on a 3-1 count for the first hit at the RedHawks' new confines.

McKie Field is complete with a fully operational press box, a luxury suite, two heated dugouts with bathrooms, the Smokey Alston room, two bullpens separate from the field, as well as an indoor hitting facility down the left field line. The field can accommodate over 1,000 fans easily and has a picnic area located down the right field line.

The scoreboard, located in left center field, is complete with a message board at the bottom. It also features a display of the speed of each pitch thrown.

In 2003, the pressbox was named the "Dave Young Pressbox" in honor of former Sports Information Director Dave Young.

Following the 2015 season, the Jay Hayden Baseball Center opened along the left-field line of McKie Field at Hayden Park. lt includes new locker room facilities, coaches' offices and training and equipment rooms. Keying the fundraising effort was a $1 million matching gift from the family of Joseph P. Hayden (Jr. and III). More than 70 donors, including alumni, parents and friends of Miami Baseball, contributed $3 million to the effort.
