RedHawks Take Both Games of Doubleheader Versus Toledo; Take Series

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- In the top of the first the Rockets put the first run on the board, scoring one on a sac groundout to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Allie Cummins tied it up 1-1 for the RedHawks on her first pitch faced in the bottom of the first inning, hitting a homerun over deep center field.
- Cummins did it again in the bottom of the second, hitting one over left field to score herself, Maddi Banks and Adriana Barlow to grab a 4-1 lead for the RedHawks.
- The Rockets fought back with an RBI single in the top of the third to put the score at 4-2.
- In the top of the third the Rockets cut the deficit again on a solo home run to make it 4-3.
- On a 2-run RBI single in the bottom of the fourth by Chloe Parks, Jenna Golembiewski and Cummins scored to push the lead to 6-3.
- Karli Spaid then hit a long double down the left field line to score Parks. Shelby Kunkel followed that up with a sac fly to score Spaid, increasing the lead to 8-3.
- On a sac fly in the top of the fifth the rockets chipped away at the lead on a sac fly, halving it 8-4.
- In the bottom of the fifth Reagan Bartholomew took one deep to center for her first career home run, adding to the RedHawks' lead 9-4.
- In the bottom of the fifth Parks hit a bases-clearing triple to score Cummins, Golembiewski and Banks to take the game 12-4.
NOTES:
- Every RedHawk batter had a hit in the game, to earn a total of 13.
- Cummins went 2-for-2 at the plate while Spaid and Banks went 2-for-3
- Brianna Pratt pitched a dominant five-inning game allowing only four earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- In the top of the first the Rockets struck first, scoring one on a double to take the 1-0 lead.
- The Rockets doubled their lead 2-0 in the top of the third on a solo home run.
- In the bottom of the third the RedHawks cut the lead in half 2-1 with the help of Parks' double, which scored Cummins.
- On a wild pitch and an error in that same inning Parks and Spaid scored to give Miami the lead, 3-2.
- In the bottom of the fifth on a throwing error following Riley Coyne's sac bunt, Spaid scored. Barlow then hit a sac fly to score Kunkel to up the lead to 5-2.
- On back-to-back doubles in the top of the sixth the Rockets scored another couple of runs to shorten the gap to 5-4.
- In the bottom of the sixth the RedHawks grabbed an insurance run when Parks scored on a double from Spaid, bringing the score to 6-4, which would prove to be the final score.
NOTES:
- Taylor Turner recorded her first save on the year after getting the final three outs.
- Spaid went 2-for-3 again in this game, and Parks went 2-for-4.
- Again, Pratt allowed only four earned runs through six innings.
UP NEXT: Miami is back in MACtion this weekend on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan University in a doubleheader to start their three-game series.
